Chapter 138
“Sean knows I’m with Grace, but Zoe exposed my identity at the worst possible time,” Jason said. He ordered Terrence, “Bring Zoe to the hospital.”
“Yes,” Terrence replied, then continued, “I’ve investigated the reporter who infiltrated the hospital last time. The news about Mr. Reed bringing Miss Cummins to the hospital was first posted by a nurse on her Facebook Moments, then uploaded to the internet. Although all relevant content has been deleted, we can’t determine how many people saw it.”
“Investigate that nurse’s legal liability and strengthen hospital security. I don’t want anyone barging into the ward,” Jason ordered coldly.
“Understood. That won’t happen,” Terrence said assuredly.
Meanwhile, at the Stevens family residence, Zoe was consumed by anxiety since inadvertently revealing the secret to Lina. “If only I’d known, I wouldn’t have told Lina. Now I’m terrified. If Lina tells Grace, and Grace tells Jason… My leg was broken as punishment for the last incident, and it still hasn’t healed. I don’t know what punishment I’ll receive this time.”
Sean, observing his younger sister pacing the living room, her leg bandaged and supported by a cane, asked, “Zoe, what’s wrong? Why are you so restless? Did you cause trouble?” Their parents were visiting friends; he’d planned to join them, but Zoe had asked him to stay with her.
“Big Brother,” Zoe said, seemingly having made a decision. “Please help me! I accidentally revealed that Jason and Grace are together.”
“What?!” Sean leaped from the sofa. “Who did you tell?”
“Grace’s friend, Lina. I don’t know if she told Grace. But if Grace told Jason, will he punish me?” Zoe asked anxiously.
Sean’s face paled. A servant announced that Mr. Reed’s secretary requested a meeting between Zoe and Mr. Reed.
The siblings exchanged fearful glances. “Who would refuse Jason’s request?”
The Stevens siblings arrived at the hospital apprehensively. Sean was stopped outside the ward; Terrence ushered only Zoe inside.
“Even the rich can’t afford this luxurious VIP room,” Zoe whispered, staring at Grace in her hospital gown. “I couldn’t stay in a VIP room when my leg was broken, but Grace can! But…Grace is sick? I wonder what’s wrong. I hope her illness worsens!”
Zoe froze upon seeing Jason sitting on a sofa beside the bed. He wore a white jumper and beige trousers, appearing languid yet attractive. (The following sentence is awkwardly phrased and somewhat jarring in tone; significant revision might be needed depending on the overall style of the work.) “A man like Jason is the dream of every prominent young lady in Emerald City, yet some who approached him met unfortunate ends. Therefore, these ladies both love and fear him.”
