Chapter 140

Zoe desperately tried to smear Grace.

Jason casually fiddled with Grace's fingers and said softly, "What's wrong with wiping shoes for a street sweeper? Even the mayor's daughter would have to do it!"

Zoe was speechless. She clearly couldn't compare to the mayor's daughter.

"Miss Stevens, please hurry," Terrence urged. "Mr. Reed is running out of patience. If he loses his patience, wiping shoes will be the least of your worries."

Zoe reluctantly bit her lip. However, unwilling as she was, she walked toward Grace, bent down, and began wiping her already clean shoes with a tissue.

Grace stared at Zoe in disbelief. She never imagined such a scene. But had Lina endured this? What had Lina felt?

Grace felt sorry for her friend. She also vaguely understood why Jason had summoned Zoe and orchestrated this scene. He wanted to demonstrate his powerโ€”his ability to make even those who scorned him kneel and obey.

After a while, Zoe said, "Mr. Reed, this should be enough, right?"

Jason smiled. "Not yet. How can this be enough?"

Terrence stepped forward and said to Zoe, "Miss Stevens, I apologize if this offends you," before calmly stepping on the back of her hand.

Zoe cried out in pain. "Mr. Reed! What are you doing?"

"He's merely returning the favor you bestowed upon Lina that night," Jason replied.

Zoe was speechless; she had indeed done it.

Jason then spoke gently to Grace. "Sis, you said Lina is very important to you. I'm helping you avenge her. Are you satisfied?"

He appeared purely solicitous. As he spoke, his hands continued to play with her left hand, intertwining their fingers and clasping the back of her hand.

Grace felt her left hand stiffen in his grasp. It burned, and she wanted to pull away, but felt utterly powerless.

She had never seen Jason behave like thisโ€”charming and manipulative. Perhaps this was the real Jason, and her previous perceptions were merely a facade.

Zoe felt excruciating pain in the back of her hand. If he continued, her hand would be as damaged as her foot.

"Mr. Reed, my handโ€ฆ my hand is going to break! Pleaseโ€ฆ please let me go!" Zoe wept, her composure shattered.
