Chapter 150
“Don’t worry, it’s fine,” Grace answered. “Because everyone at the Sanitation Service Center already knows about the accident that caused Jennifer Atkinson’s death and my three years in prison.”
The man reclining on the sofa held his cheek with one hand and a glass of red wine in the other, sipping occasionally. He looked beautiful and innocent, with an alluring quality emanating from between his brows. It was as if a single glance from him could ensnare anyone in the tightly woven net of his eyes.
“Unable to escape, I willingly fell into his trap.”
“And it’s no wonder so many prominent ladies in Emerald City have feelings for him!” Patrick studied Jason, drinking alone, and sighed inwardly. “But those feelings rarely translate into action. Those who have taken action have irritated Mr. Reed and ended up miserable, even becoming a laughingstock in Emerald City.”
“Why are you here drinking alone? If you’re here to meet friends, you should at least bring that woman. I really want to meet her. What kind of woman could make you abandon your Old Master on Thanksgiving?” Patrick asked.
“I’m so curious about this woman. Jason said it was just a phone game, no reason to meet her. But… I’ve never seen Jason play games with other women!” Patrick was dubious.
Gripping his wine glass, Jason’s fingers faltered slightly. He raised his breathtakingly beautiful eyes and stared at Patrick with a faint smile. “Oh, do you really want to meet her?”
Patrick’s hair stood on end; a sense of crisis arose. “If I nod now, I’ll come to no good end. It’s as if what I just said broke a taboo. A woman is Jason’s… taboo? Does that mean she’s important to him, or am I overthinking things?!”
Deciding he was overthinking, Patrick flashed Jason an embarrassed smile. “I don’t want to meet her. Happy?”
As they spoke, two figures entered. Patrick hastily changed the subject. “It’s Brian, that kid. He’s bringing that new girlfriend again. Why does this kid keep finding starlets as girlfriends? He makes one famous, then finds another. How many does he want to make famous?”
Patrick was speechless at the speed of Brian’s girlfriend changes. Brian doted on each girlfriend, giving them anything they wanted. However, breakups were frustratingly frank and ruthless. Some even called him heartless; he’d lavish attention on a woman, then cast her aside like an old shoe.
Evelyn took Brian’s arm and entered the magnificent banquet hall.
“I never dreamed of visiting such places. Now I’m nurtured by the film crew, and Brian says I can be the female lead in my next television series. It’s like winning the lottery! Before, I had to curry favor with screenwriters, assistant directors, and directors just to get more dialogue. Even drinking and laughing with them wasn’t always enough. Now, Brian’s word makes me the female lead. But my biggest prize is being Brian’s girlfriend! The only thing I regret is that although Brian is meticulously attentive, buying me designer bags and luxury clothes, whenever I try to be intimate, he calmly says, ‘There’s no need for that.’”
