Chapter 186

โ€œAfter what they did to you and imprisoned you for so many days, arenโ€™t you worried theyโ€™ll hold a grudge and do worse if theyโ€™re released?โ€ he asked.

Grace remained silent. She understood the situation perfectly. After everything, her uncle wouldn't be grateful; they would only resent her more.

โ€œTheyโ€™re people I donโ€™t care about. I donโ€™t care how much they hate me, or what they think,โ€ she replied calmly, looking down.

Her calmness, however, inexplicably agitated him.

โ€œWhat about me?โ€ he suddenly asked.

โ€œWhat?โ€ she stammered, startled.

He leaned closer, placing both hands on the bedside table. โ€œWhat about me? Do you care about me? Do you care what I think?โ€

Grace was stunned. If he were Jason, she would care. But he was Jasonโ€ฆ or was he? Did she care less now?

โ€œWhat if I do care?โ€ he challenged.

She bit her lip, took a deep breath. โ€œI care.โ€

He was shocked. โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œBecause youโ€™re Jason. You control Emerald City. A single word from you can change someoneโ€™s life. Of course, I care what you think. I canโ€™t afford to offend you.โ€

The price of offending him was reliving those tortures. She was terrified. She couldn't defy him.

His mood soured abruptly.

โ€œCanโ€™t afford to offend me? Then why didnโ€™t you consider offending me when you said you wouldnโ€™t stay by my side?โ€ he chided coldly.

She instinctively cowered.

He raised a hand, pulling her face close. โ€œLast night, after I brought you home, do you know what happened in this room?โ€ he said, his tone flirtatious.

Her expression changed. โ€œYou said you wouldnโ€™t touch me.โ€

โ€œYes, I did. But even if I had, so what?โ€

Her complexion paled; her teeth bit her lip, almost drawing blood. Her calm eyes were now filled with anxiety and hesitation.

Jason felt his own mood darken. Heโ€™d said it to punish her, but now he wasnโ€™t sure who he was punishing.

He abruptly released her, stood up straight, and said coldly, โ€œDonโ€™t worry. I didnโ€™t do anything to you. Unlike you, who clambered all over me and wouldnโ€™t leave me alone.โ€

Grace was relieved at first, but the second half sent her heart racing.

โ€œImpossible!โ€ she denied.

He gave her a cold look. โ€œWhy? You were so drunk you donโ€™t remember. Shall I refresh your memory? I can tell you how you pressed me onto the bed and kissed me.โ€

With each sentence, her face flushed deeper red. By the end, it was incandescent.
