Chapter 186
โAfter what they did to you and imprisoned you for so many days, arenโt you worried theyโll hold a grudge and do worse if theyโre released?โ he asked.
Grace remained silent. She understood the situation perfectly. After everything, her uncle wouldn't be grateful; they would only resent her more.
โTheyโre people I donโt care about. I donโt care how much they hate me, or what they think,โ she replied calmly, looking down.
Her calmness, however, inexplicably agitated him.
โWhat about me?โ he suddenly asked.
โWhat?โ she stammered, startled.
He leaned closer, placing both hands on the bedside table. โWhat about me? Do you care about me? Do you care what I think?โ
Grace was stunned. If he were Jason, she would care. But he was Jasonโฆ or was he? Did she care less now?
โWhat if I do care?โ he challenged.
She bit her lip, took a deep breath. โI care.โ
He was shocked. โWhy?โ
โBecause youโre Jason. You control Emerald City. A single word from you can change someoneโs life. Of course, I care what you think. I canโt afford to offend you.โ
The price of offending him was reliving those tortures. She was terrified. She couldn't defy him.
His mood soured abruptly.
โCanโt afford to offend me? Then why didnโt you consider offending me when you said you wouldnโt stay by my side?โ he chided coldly.
She instinctively cowered.
He raised a hand, pulling her face close. โLast night, after I brought you home, do you know what happened in this room?โ he said, his tone flirtatious.
Her expression changed. โYou said you wouldnโt touch me.โ
โYes, I did. But even if I had, so what?โ
Her complexion paled; her teeth bit her lip, almost drawing blood. Her calm eyes were now filled with anxiety and hesitation.
Jason felt his own mood darken. Heโd said it to punish her, but now he wasnโt sure who he was punishing.
He abruptly released her, stood up straight, and said coldly, โDonโt worry. I didnโt do anything to you. Unlike you, who clambered all over me and wouldnโt leave me alone.โ
Grace was relieved at first, but the second half sent her heart racing.
โImpossible!โ she denied.
He gave her a cold look. โWhy? You were so drunk you donโt remember. Shall I refresh your memory? I can tell you how you pressed me onto the bed and kissed me.โ
With each sentence, her face flushed deeper red. By the end, it was incandescent.
