Chapter 189
To save time, Grace brought her half-knitted gloves and yarn to work, planning to knit during her afternoon break.
When Claire Watts saw the gloves, she asked curiously, โAre you knitting these for yourself? They seem a bit large.โ
โIs it a gift?โ Claire asked.
โUh-huh,โ Grace replied.
โIt doesnโt look like your size. Is it for someone else?โ Claire guessed.
Grace nodded.
โYou havenโt gotten a boyfriend, have you?โ Claire asked.
โNo,โ Grace quickly denied.
โIf you don't have one, why are you knitting so diligently? You're even knitting during your break!โ Claire clearly didn't believe her.
Grace didn't know what to say. She couldn't admit she was knitting for Jason and wanted to finish quickly. She imagined Claire would think she'd lost her mind if she did.
โSpeaking of which, itโs a shame Chase Harperโs about to get his heart broken,โ Claire said regretfully. โHeโs not so bad. He owns a house and is honest. Marrying him would ensure a stable life.โ
Indeed, marrying Chase Harper would have provided a stable future. However, a car accident that year changed everything. Grace hoped Chase would find someone who truly loved and cared for him.
โI heard Chase Harper wants to resign,โ Claire continued. โI donโt know if itโs true. The Sanitation Service Center isnโt glamorous, but he has a permanent positionโa rare thing to find.โ
Grace froze. โChase Harper wants to resign?โ
โThatโs what I heard,โ Claire murmured. โA permanent position that others would kill for, and he wants to quit? It seems impossible.โ
Grace felt confused. Was Chaseโs resignation related to her? Was it because of something she said that night? Had she offended him by criticizing his lack of money? Sheโd only meant to discourage him from pursuing her, but if he was quitting his jobโฆ
Without further thought, Grace got up and went to the transportation fleet office to find him. She found him during a handover.
โCan we talk alone for a moment?โ Grace asked.
Chase glanced at Grace, then spoke briefly to his colleague before turning back to her. โAlright. Letโs talk in my office.โ
Chase had his own office at the Sanitation Service Center.
Grace followed him in. โYouโre going to resign?โ she asked directly.
Chase hesitated, then nervously scratched his head. โYou know about this already? Yes, Iโm planning to quit. Iโve submitted my resignation to the superintendent.โ
โIs it because of what I said that night? You donโt have to worry about it. Your job is good, and you could even advance with more experience,โ she said.
