Chapter 214

Evelyn had always felt uneasy around Brian. Until now, he hadn't actually touched her. Nevertheless, she was his official girlfriend.

She planned to make Grace understand life's cyclical nature. Grace had previously refused her help; now, Evelyn intended to make her pay for that refusal.

The director had the extras rehearse twice before the official shoot. During rehearsal, Grace wasn't present; her stand-in was there instead. Evelyn, however, refused a stand-in, choosing to be present herself and stand next to the male lead.

Evelyn was the second female lead, playing the male lead's mistress. She shared many scenes with Lily. Brian had offered her several films, and she'd immediately chosen this one.

Brian had commented, "I thought you'd choose a leading role. This one only makes you the second female lead."

Evelyn replied, "This is a big production, with a famous director, a two-time Best Actor winner as the male lead, and Lily, who's incredibly popular right now. Even as the second female lead, it's better than being the lead in some low-budget film."

However, Evelyn knew these were excuses. Her real reason for joining the cast was to one-up Lily, who had previously looked down on her and treated her poorly when she'd sought a role with Sean Stevens. Evelyn aimed to show Lily that, even as second female lead, she could still overshadow her.

It was a surprise to find Grace working as an extra on the set. The opportunity to show off in front of both Lily and Grace was immensely satisfying.

After the second rehearsal, as the director prepared to start filming, Evelyn interjected, "Director, I think the extras aren't kneeling properly."

The director, surprised, responded, "Not properly? They're extras; they can't be perfectly uniform like soldiers."

"Exactly," Evelyn insisted. "It's affecting the scene. Could they practice kneeling a few more times to make it neater? I'm happy to practice with them. I just want the scene to be perfect!" She projected an image of professional dedication.

Though confused by Evelyn's sudden request, the director couldn't offend the entertainment industry prince's new girlfriend and complied.

At the director's command, the extras knelt again. Grace, naturally, knelt with them. Evelyn positioned herself in front of Grace, making it appear as though Grace was groveling to her.

Grace knew Evelyn was being deliberate, and now even the director seemed to be taking his cues from Evelyn. Unless she wanted to forfeit her part-time pay, Grace had no choice but to obey. Thinking of Lina’s grandmother's medical bills, she gritted her teeth and persevered.
