Chapter 220

"It was obviously caused by all the groveling," he said.

"Seriously, youโ€ฆ you knelt because they asked you to?" He was inexplicably angry.

"Or what? Reject them? If I refuse, I won't get paid for my extra work today," she replied.

He choked. He knew extras were the most vulnerable group on a film crew; they had no bargaining power when choosing jobs.

"How much money do you get a day as an extra?" he asked, his voice muffled.

"Eighty dollars a day. Because there's a kneeling scene today, they added fifty dollars. For demonstrating the correct way to kneel and grovel, they'll give me another two hundred," she said.

He glared at her. His thoughts churned. Three hundred and thirty dollars? She repeatedly knelt and groveled for three hundred and thirty dollars? Did this woman not know how to protect herself?

"Do you have a problem with Evelyn?" he asked, noticing she was deliberately making things difficult for herself.

No one on the film crew dared to speak. This was typical; extras were never taken seriously. The crew was full of shrewd people; no one would offend Evelyn for an extra. Because the man behind Evelyn was him.

Thinking this, Brian felt a suffocating tightness in his chest.

"She's my half-sister. And yes, there's a problem. She's always felt my imprisonment ruined her future," Grace said.

Even without her saying so, Brian could easily deduce this; there was no need for her to hide it.

Surprise flickered in his eyes. He knew Evelyn had a half-sister who didn't live with her, but hadn't paid much attention to her name. He'd never actually cared much about Evelyn. It was only Evelyn's resemblance to another girl that kept him interested.

It never occurred to him that this woman and Evelyn could be sisters.

Just then, the lounge door opened, and Evelyn, the subject of their conversation, entered. She looked pale.

Evelyn saw the gauze wrapped around Grace's hand, then saw Brian's disapproving frown. Quickly, she snuggled up to him, feigning guilt.

"Brian, thank you for taking care of my sister and letting Dr. Kwan examine her. I happened to meet Dr. Kwan on my way here. I was relieved to hear her injury isn't serious." She turned to Grace. "I'm so sorry, Sis. I didn't hold the hand stove properly, and it fell on your hand."

Grace calmly looked at her half-sister, the sister she had once treated with sincerity, even trying to advance her acting career. But a car accident had shattered that illusion.

She understood how Evelyn had risen from a C-list actress to the second female lead in a big-budget film, how even the director catered to her demands.
