Chapter 256

Ripples in his eyes revealed a gentleness that suggested he would tolerate anything she did. The light in his eyes and the smile playing at the corners of his lips were indescribably beautiful.

Grace suddenly realized she was being silly. Even though she'd ordered everything on the menu, it was nothing to Jason. What was wrong with her? She was venting her anger in a childish way.

Frustrated, Grace dejectedly handed the menu back to the waiter, saying, "That's all."

"Is that all?" Jason asked with a smile.

Grace bit her lip before repeating, "That's all."

"Is that all? There's enough for seven or eight people. Isn't that a little much for two?" the waiter tactfully inquired.

Jason lightly replied, "That's all for now."

The waiter took the menu and left. Jason looked at Grace and said, "If you think it's not enough, Sis, you can order more later."

His indulgent tone made her heart leap.

"I was just fooling around. I should change the order and remove some dishes," Grace said, hesitating before rising to find the waiter.

But Jason stopped her, saying, "There's no need. Why remove dishes you like?"

"I don't want to waste food," Grace explained.

Jason looked slightly surprised.

"Maybe this meal doesn't mean much to you, but I I don't want to waste food by ordering it and not eating it," Grace said, biting her lip. In the past, she'd always ordered many of her favorite dishes, only tasting a little of each. Then she'd talk about staying in shape, claiming she couldn't eat too much and needed to lose weight.

However, after her life was turned upside down, she learned that a full meal wasn't easy to come by. In prison, she finished every meal, because eating was essential for survival. Sometimes, even when food was maliciously thrown on the floor, she'd pick up and eat the scraps. If the food was rendered inedible by pranks, she went hungry until the next meal. Once, she was cruelly teased for two days and could only drink water. That's when she truly understood the fear of hunger.

After her release, she never wasted food, always finishing her meals. People only cherish food after experiencing hunger.

Jason stared steadily at Grace. After a moment, he said, "All right, then we'll do as you say."

He called the waiter and canceled the unstarted dishes, leaving only three dishes and a soup. When the food arrived, Jason offered to help Grace set the table.

Grace picked up her chopsticks and looked at the food. She never thought she'd be here with him again. Suddenly, her stomach rumbled. Only then did Grace realize she was hungry.

With her head down, she began to eat. Jason, meanwhile, continued to watch her.
