Chapter 280

He was a handsome young man, somewhere between a teenager and a young adult, with an androgynous face that suited the current fashion. His delicate features looked as if they belonged in a painting, except for his thin lips, which were pressed together, and his strikingly beautiful black eyes, which seemed tinged with anger.

"Is that man angry?" Grace wondered. Judging by his gaze, he appeared annoyed by…

"Grace, I'm talking to you. Do you hear me?" Lina Sweeney's voice startled her back to attention.

"What were you saying?" Grace turned to her best friend.

"I asked if the doctor said when your hand might heal," Lina said.

"About a week; then it's just the skin healing," Grace replied. She glanced in the direction of the strange man, but both the car and the man were gone.

"What are you looking at?" Lina followed her gaze. "Is there something in the street?"

"Nothing." Grace smiled, slightly self-conscious. "I'm probably being paranoid. Even if he was looking our way with an angry face, it doesn't mean he was looking at us."

"By the way," Lina said, "are you living with Jason now? What's going on?" She'd been wanting to ask since calling Grace last night.

"We're… sort of living together," Grace said.

"You're cohabitating?" Lina asked.

The word "cohabitating" almost made Grace choke on her drink.

"No… not really. I'm just staying for a while. I'll move out once my hand heals," Grace said quickly.

"What?" Lina frowned. "Are you being forced to live with Jason?"

She thought of Jason's role in Grace's miserable prison experience and his subsequent lies. Grace hated being lied to, and Jason was a trauma she couldn't easily erase.

Grace forced a lighthearted smile. "Not exactly forced. It's convenient since I broke my hand, and he's given me a separate room."

"But…" Lina began, voicing her concerns.

Grace interrupted. "Let's change the subject. Didn't you say your mom's been setting you up on blind dates? Met anyone you like?"

"Don't even get me started. I'm trying to escape them! I'm only twenty-seven, but my mother thinks I need to get married. Some fortune teller said I must marry next year, so I have to find someone this year. I'd like to kick that fortune teller's stall!" Lina said angrily.

"You haven't had a crush on anyone all these years?" Grace said, noting that Lina hadn't seemed to be in love since they'd met. Her main passion seemed to be celebrity fandom.

"Err…" Lina touched her nose uneasily.
