Chapter 283
“Whether you are her or not, you will be with me for the rest of your life. There will be no one else!” he said coldly, staring at the photograph. His tone was domineering. He would never let her go, nor would he give anyone else a chance.
In the private room of a swanky club, Evelyn struggled to please Brian. Lacking guarantees, she needed to work harder to win him over. However, she was frustrated because since entering the room, he had only questioned her about Grace—her childhood, her studies, everything. Anything, big or small, concerning Grace, he wanted to know.
‘What the hell is this about? I’m his girlfriend now!’ Evelyn raged silently, maintaining a gentle smile and a sisterly expression as she recounted details about Grace. What she discussed were trivial matters. Yet, Brian listened intently, making Evelyn increasingly embarrassed.
Finally, after relating several childhood stories about Grace, Evelyn coquettishly said, “Brian, I know I was wrong before, and… my second female lead role is gone. Everyone is laughing at me, saying your ex-girlfriends were all famous actresses and celebrities. I'm the least significant one.”
Brian looked at her lightly, seemingly assessing her reaction. Evelyn felt transparent to him, yet she had to speak. Silence would gain her nothing.
“I want to prove I can stand by you, so… why don't you give me another film? I'll do it well this time and won't cause any more trouble,” she said.
“Is that so? What kind of film do you want?” he asked casually.
A big-budget film with a renowned director, Evelyn thought, but she feigned humility. “As long as I get a film, I don't care what it is,” she said.
“I’ll let you know in a couple of days,” Brian replied.
“Great! You’re so good to me, Brian!” Evelyn exclaimed, attempting to embrace him. However, Brian pushed her away. He then pressed his hand against her face, covering her eyes and forehead, exposing only her lips and jaw.
“Brian…” Evelyn panicked, unsure of his intentions.
Brian stared at her lips, his fingertips lightly tracing them. They looked just like… Grace’s lips—the little girl he remembered. Oddly, though he knew Grace wasn’t the woman he sought, he couldn’t help but want to know more about Evelyn—even the most trivial details.
