Chapter 334
At office dinners, she was the only one who would remind colleagues who had been drinking not to drive, urging them to find a designated driver instead. How could someone like her drink and drive? He thought she must have been wrongly accused. However, as a lawyer, he didn't dare help clear her name. He feared her case was too complicated and that it would require him to oppose Jason. Who in Emerald City dared to cross Jason? He could only conclude that Grace had bad luck.
By noon, Jason's secretary placed a large order. Grace was responsible for delivering it; this routine continued for days. Then, Jason would make her stay for lunch. Grace had subtly hinted several times that she preferred he didn't, but he'd raise his eyebrows and ask with a bright smile, "Don't you like having lunch with me? I just want to eat with" Grace was speechless. His smile, coupled with the longing in his eyes, felt like a transgression.
Grace found herself increasingly entranced by Jason. When she confided in Lina Sweeney, Lina immediately texted back, "Of course, it's because of his beauty!"
Grace frowned. "What do you mean?" she replied.
Lina texted, "Jason is drop-dead gorgeous. How many male celebrities look like him? It's only natural you'd be mesmerized looking at that face every day."
Grace had to agree.
Lina continued, "What's going on between you and Jason, Grace? I think he might be serious about you."
Grace replied, "If he were just playing games, I don't think he would have saved me because of me, let alone go against Hadwin Stephenson."
Grace stared silently at the message, sensing something was amiss.
Lina texted, "Grace? Are you still there?"
"I'm here," Grace replied, quickly changing the subject. "By the way, what's up with you and Hadwin Stephenson?"
"It's a long story," Lina replied. "I'll tell you next time we meet. You said you have a delivery job. When do you have time off?"
"Every Saturday after two o'clock. The boss gives me a half-day," Grace said. Delivery jobs left little time for rest.
"Okay, let's meet Saturday then," Lina said.
"Time to deliver the order, Grace," Kyla Corbyn called.
Grace quickly said goodbye to Lina, put away her phone, and looked at the large order Kyla Corbyn had preparedโfor the Reed Group.
