Chapter 338

The room was silent. Grace noticed Old Master Reed scrutinizing her with disdain and disgust. Besides a nurse, a man—Old Master Reed's private secretary—was also present.

After a tense silence, Old Master Reed finally spoke. "Do you know why I brought you here?"

"Yes," Grace replied. "It's because of Jason." She admitted to herself that she'd been nervous on the way, but seeing his disgust had somehow calmed her. She'd been through worse.

Old Master Reed snorted. "You would know!"

"What are you trying to say?" Grace asked directly. Tired of beating around the bush, she pressed him.

"I never thought he'd let you live in Reed Residence. Do women like you think you can just waltz into the Reed family?" Old Master Reed said coldly.

Grace understood; the old man wanted to She hung her head, knowing he wouldn't believe anything she said.

Bored with her silence, Old Master Reed turned to his secretary. "What do you think my grandson sees in this woman?"

"I don't know, sir, but there must be something special about her," the secretary replied.

The old man waved his hand dismissively. "I see nothing special. Her face is unlovable. Ruin her face, and see if Jason still wants her."

"All right," the secretary answered.

Grace jerked her head up, staring at Old Master Reed in dismay. He spoke so calmly, as if disfiguring someone were commonplace.

She laughed bitterly, remembering his past power. Bringing her here meant more than a warning. Did she really expect a simple reprimand and dismissal?

The secretary produced a dagger and approached Grace. She showed no panic, no plea for mercy—only quiet resignation.

Old Master Reed was surprised by her reaction. "You're not escaping?" he asked.

"There's no escape," she replied calmly. The secretary, skilled and appointed by the old man, was far beyond her capabilities. Even if she escaped this ward, could she escape the hospital?

Reason told her to accept her fate, but she refused. Why was her life always at the mercy of others? They were all human, yet she was powerless against their cruelty.
