Chapter 351
โWho is he, Miss Sweeney?โ Carl Motley asked.
โYes, tell him. Who am I?โ Hadwin Stephenson said, looking at Lina Sweeney.
Both men were suddenly looking at her. Lina Sweeney felt as if their gazes were about to prick her. One was the blind date her mother had arranged; the other, her newly appointed boyfriend, here to collect a debt. She couldn't afford to offend either!
However, after comparing them, she decided on the one who would cause less trouble. Considering her mother's involvement with Carl Motley, Lina Sweeney felt she couldn't offend Hadwin Stephenson. She offered a weak smile and said to Carl Motley, โI almost forgot, Mr. Motley. This is my boyfriend. His last name is Stephenson.โ
Carl Motley's face immediately paled. โBoyfriend? You have a boyfriend?โ
โYesโฆ yes, I doโฆโ Lina Sweeney replied guiltily. Regardless of Carl Motley's previous strangeness, she was clearly at fault.
Carl Motley shook with anger, his face reddening as he shouted, โI was kind enough to go on a blind date with you, but you already have a boyfriend! Youโve gone too far. Explain yourself! How dare you make a fool of me!โ
He stepped forward to grab Lina Sweeneyโs collar. Before she could react, Hadwin Stephensonโs hand stopped him.
โWho said you could touch her?โ Hadwin Stephenson said coldly.
โWhat, do you want to fight?โ Carl Motley asked angrily. โYouโd better watch out with a woman like her. She went on a blind date with me behind your back today; who knows if sheโll be sleeping around behind your back tomorrow? She might look obedient, but who knows what shady business sheโs involved inโฆโ
Lina Sweeney rolled up her sleeves, ready to hit him, but before she could, there was a loud smack. She stared at Hadwin Stephenson, who was shaking his hand. He had hit the man first.
โDid you justโฆ hit me?โ Carl Motley glared at Hadwin Stephenson.
โBelieve it or not, if you say one more word about her, I can assure you there wonโt be a tooth left in your mouth,โ Hadwin Stephenson said coldly.
Carl Motley trembled, suddenly feeling a deep fear. He tried to retort, opening his mouth, but his voice seemed stuck in his throat; the words wouldn't come out.
Hadwin Stephensonโs face darkened, and he immediately pulled Lina Sweeney away. She was confused and followed, almost jogging to keep up as his pace quickened.
โSlowโฆ slow down,โ she said. She would have stopped, had he not been holding her hand.
Hadwin Stephenson stopped abruptly, and Lina Sweeney bumped into his back.
โOuch!โ She held her nose, as if she'd hit an iron plate. โAt least give me a hint before stopping,โ she muttered.
โA hint?โ Hadwin Stephenson sneered, turning to stare at her. โThen you should give me a hint. Why go on blind dates when you have a boyfriend? Are you used to cheating?โ
