Chapter 352

Lina Sweeney was nearly choked by his words. "Cheating? What the hell! I didn't cheat!"

However, in Hadwin Stephenson's presence, she paused, then explained, "Well my mother forced me on a blind date. She threatened to disown me if I refused. I tried to tell him I have a boyfriend, but he interrupted me."

She wasn't lying.

"Your mother forced you on a blind date?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Yes, yes!" she said with a lame smile. Her mother was aggressively pushy about blind dates; she was the type who would relentlessly pursue it.

"You didn't tell your family you have a boyfriend?" he asked, a dangerous gleam in his eyes.

Lina Sweeney felt guilty. How could she tell her parents? Hadwin Stephenson's identity alone would likely frighten them, especially since their relationship was tentative. They were simply going through the motions.

"We started dating so suddenly; telling my parents about a boyfriend out of the blue would probably shock them. I'm planning to find the right time to talk to them later," Lina Sweeney defended herself, though she had no real intention of telling them.

"Will you tell them?" Hadwin Stephenson narrowed his black eyes.

"I promise," she said quickly, adopting an expression that suggested she'd be struck by lightning if she lied. All that was missing was a raised hand and an oath.

"All right. If you ever go on another blind date, you're dead, Lina Sweeney," he said, nodding.

"" Was that a threat? Considering her current situation, she could only laugh dryly. "It'll never happen again."

She couldn't help but complain to herself: Even as a girlfriend just going through the motions, I seem awfully cowardly! Shouldn't a boyfriend be caring and attentive? Why am I getting threats?

Shouldn't he make me fall in love with him first, if he wants revenge? In movies and dramas, the male lead plots revenge by pretending to be incredibly gentle, treating the woman like a delicate treasure. I don't feel like a delicate treasure; I feel like I could die at any moment.

He seemed satisfied with her answer, turned, and walked on. She hurried after him.

As they left the park, her stomach let out a loud, untimely rumble.

"Are you hungry?" Hadwin Stephenson asked.

"A little," she answered, slightly embarrassed. His expression was calm. She said, "Why don't we eat here? There are many gourmet restaurants around."

He glanced at her sideways. Her eyes were shining; bright as ever when food was involved. When they were abroad, she'd always asked about local specialties and insisted he take her to try them.

"Come on," he said. A look of joy instantly lit up her face.
