Chapter 377
Simultaneously, the image of another pair of lips, untouched by lipstick, appeared in his mind. Their natural, light pink hue seemed the most beautiful color to him.
"Wipe it off," Brian said flatly.
"What?" Evelyn was confused.
"Wipe off your lipstick," he repeated.
Evelyn was stunned. They were en route to an event. She'd dressed impeccably, hoping to shine. Removing her lipstick would ruin her makeup, making her the laughingstock of the evening.
"Now? But we're almost there"
"Now," Brian interrupted, displeasure evident in his hawk-like eyes.
Daunted, Evelyn dared not disobey. She bit her lip, retrieved a tissue, and wiped off her lipstick.
Meanwhile, Brian examined a silver bangle, his fingertip lightly tracing its surface, his gaze tender as if directed at a lover. Evelyn had never witnessed such gentleness from him.
As she checked her makeup in a compact mirror, she saw his soft expression and felt a surge of jealousy. She finally understood the bangle's significance; she'd glimpsed it in one of Brian's drawingsโa girl wearing identical bangles on each wrist.
Industry rumors claimed Brian was searching for someone, offering endless resources to anyone who helped him find her. Initially, Evelyn dismissed these rumors as typical industry gossip. However, she now believed them true. The person he sought was the girl in his drawing. Though she'd never mentioned seeing the drawing, she had secretly entered his studio. Her intuition told her he was searching for that girl.
Adding to her anxiety, she sensed Grace was becoming more of a threat. Grace strongly resembled the girl in the drawing, even wearing the same flowery dress in a childhood photograph.
Coincidence? If Grace was the girl Brian sought, Evelyn's carefully constructed world would crumble. That was unacceptable. Even if Grace was that girl, Brian would never find out!
Upon returning to the Reed Residence, Jason learned from the maids that Grace was home. However, her room was plunged in darkness.
