Chapter 382
"Our investigation reveals that Miss Cummins's father paid three months' rent after retrieving her mother's crematory urn. After a brief initial visit, he hasn't returned. Furthermore, he hasn't contacted any cemeteries or arranged for a plot," Terrence stated.
Grace lowered her head, gazing at the urn before her. Her fatherhe never intended to move her mother's remains. He used this to blackmail her. He'd likely return the urn once he'd gained enough from her—perhaps even saving money on a burial plot!
She wondered how her mother would feel, knowing how the man she'd loved treated her in death. It was both funny and sad. Her nose tingled, but this time, her tears didn't fall. Perhaps she'd cried too much already.
"Thank you," Grace said, looking up at Jason. Without him, she wouldn't have found her mother's ashes.
"Save your thanks," Jason replied, glancing at Terrence. "Is everything arranged?"
"All set," Terrence confirmed.
Jason turned back to Grace. "Take your mother's ashes. We'll bury her now."
She stared blankly.
"Come on. I've made the arrangements," he said. The simple sentence inexplicably calmed her. With him, she felt no worry.
Grace followed Jason out of the rental house and into the car. When they stopped again, they were at a prominent Emerald City cemetery. Its location, accessibility, and design made plots difficult to obtain, even with wealth.
Jason led Grace to an empty plot where uniformed individuals and what appeared to be staff awaited. Grace stared in amazement at the headstone, bearing her mother's name, with her own name inscribed in the bottom right corner. He'd prepared all of this—everything she couldn't manage herself.
"This is where your mother will be buried. If you dislike it, we can choose another location," Jason said.
