Chapter 381
"You asked me for fifty million dollars," he said. "Why don't you just let me help you find your mother's grave?"
She was shocked. He reminded her of her naivetรฉ. Even if she gave her father fifty million dollars, would he be satisfied? Wouldn't he simply ask for more? As Jason had pointed out, instead of demanding the money, she should have asked him to help locate her mother's remains.
She admitted to panicking and overlooking such a simple solution.
"Can you take me there now?" Grace asked anxiously. She needed to know her mother's burial place to find peace.
"There's no rush," Jason said. "Take a break. Rest if you're tired."
But Grace couldn't rest. She gazed at him longingly.
Fifteen minutes later, Jason's phone rang. After answering, he said, "All right, got it. Wait for me there, and settle everything I told you to do as soon as possible."
He hung up, stood, and said to Grace, "Come with me."
Grace, assuming he was taking her to her mother's grave, immediately followed. Only after getting in the car did she realize they weren't heading toward the Emerald City cemeteries. Instead, they were driving to a large residential area.
The car stopped, and Grace stared in surprise, then turned to Jason in confusion. They were parked in an urban village.
"Come on," he said, taking her hand.
Grace followed stiffly, to one of the houses. Jason's secretary, Terrence, and several men who looked like bodyguards were there.
Terrence approached immediately. "It's inside, Young Master Reed," he said.
Jason led Grace into the house. It was clearly empty, a group rental property that Terrence had prepared.
Terrence opened a roomโa simple space with a bed and a table. The bed was bare. On the table sat a box.
It was a cinerary urn.
Grace's pupils constricted. Her hands trembled as she touched it. The urn bore her mother's name and date of death.
This was her mother's urn.
Her heart ached. She had assumed her father would at least buy a plot if he moved her mother's grave. She never imagined he had simply rented a room in a group house to store her ashes. Terrence's presence confirmed her suspicions.
