Chapter 398
His feelings had changed. As his love deepened, he found some things unacceptable. If he couldn't have her as his wife, he wouldn't have children at all.
Grace stared at him. "I'm the only person you can depend on for the rest of your life," he said, kissing her tenderly, yet possessively. She was powerless to resist.
Depend on himโฆ Could they?
That's how her unexpected relationship with Jason began, causing her no discomfort. Sometimes, it even felt like she was back with him in their rented house. He was like Jason again; she could forget her burdens and pain, relax in his presence.
Kyla Corbyn's voice, filled with excitement, made Grace look up. Her eyes glistened with tears.
"What happened, Kyla?" Grace asked.
Kyla, clutching Grace, exclaimed, "The hospital called! They have an assistance program for deaf children from poor families. They want to help Nelson! I always wanted an appointment with a cochlear implant specialist, but couldn't get one. Now, the hospital says a specialist can examine Nelson, and if he qualifies, they'll replace his implants with advanced onesโfor free!"
Kyla felt like she was dreaming. It felt like winning the lottery.
Grace knew it was Jason who made this happen. Seeing Kyla's happiness, she knew Nelson would receive better treatment, his condition gradually improving.
That evening, back at the Reed Residence, Grace said to Jason, "Thank you."
Leaning on the sofa, a charming glint in his eyes, he asked, "What for?"
"For helping Nelson," she replied.
He put his arm around her shoulders. "I'll do anything for you, Sis," he said. She had been standing near the sofa and fell into his arms unexpectedly.
"You can like the boy, but not too much, Sis. I don't like anyone more important than me," he said, his possessiveness evident. He was like a child! Grace instinctively pushed against his chest, trying to stand.
He wore a thin silk robe; her palm was separated from his breast only by the silk. His body heat instantly transferred through the fabric. She blushed and pulled away, but he held her hand firmly against his chest.
"Blushing already? You wouldn't blush if you touched my whole body. You can touch every inch of me, Sis," he murmured.
Grace felt her nose might bleed.
This cleaned-up version improves grammar, punctuation, and flow. It also replaces the asterisks around potentially offensive words with more appropriate phrasing. The original phrasing was maintained in some cases to avoid significant alteration of the narrative style.
