Chapter 397

He was the head of the Reed family. It wasn't unusual for Reed family children to inherit the family's fortune and assets. Was he going to destroy the Reed family line because of her? Grace felt naive for not considering this before impulsively dating him.

How long would this last, though? Even in the wealthy families she'd dealt with previously, the existence of an heir was far more important than in ordinary families.

"What happened? Your body" he said, frowning.

She lowered her head, gazing at her flat stomach. "Once I was beaten so badly that I ruptured my uterus. I eventually recovered, but the doctor said the damage might prevent me from conceiving in the future."

It was difficult to say, and it was her deepest sorrow.

A flash of gloom crossed his eyes. She was beaten? When? Was it during her imprisonment? How much pain had she endured?!

The more she had suffered, the more he regretted his actions. If he'd shown even a little pity, he wouldn't have allowed others to hurt her.

"If if you want to break up now, then" she began softly, but he interrupted.

"I thought I told you not to even think about breaking up." He put his arm around her waist and pulled her close.

"Ah!" she exclaimed, unconsciously looking up. Their eyes met.

"The person I want is you, the person I love is you. It has nothing to do with whether you can bear my children. Even if we never have children, I won't let you go." His forehead touched hers. His cold voice was confident: "Remember what I said. Now that you're in love with me, you'll love me forever!"

She was stunned. His scent filled her nose, his words ringing in her ears. Did he know what he was saying? Did the matter of children truly not matter? Was he serious?

As if reading her mind, he murmured, "I mean it. I never thought having children was important. I wouldn't have children with anyone but you."

He had previously been indifferent to the idea of children. If the old man wanted an heir, he would have simply chosen a woman the old man liked to be his mistress and bear an heir. He simply didn't want to trouble himself with such a trivial matter.

Yes, marriage and children, so important to others, were trivial to him.
