“No, I just happened to meet someone I know. He settled things,” Grace hesitated.

“Your friend? We must thank him! Why don’t I buy some presents for you to give him?” Kyla Corbyn said hurriedly.

“It’s all right,” Grace said, quickly changing the subject. “How is Nelson’s cochlear implant coming along?”

“In a couple of days, when Nelson’s medical report is out, he can have the implant installed, if there are no problems,” Kyla Corbyn said, her joy evident. “The hospital also said I’m financially challenged and can apply for a discount.”

“That’s great,” Grace said, pleased knowing Jason had contacted the hospital. She was delighted Nelson would soon be able to hear.

The earlier incident felt like a distant episode.

What Grace didn't expect was Kyla Corbyn stopping her that evening to ask, “Was it Brian who helped us with the blackmail today?”

Seeing Grace’s expression, Kyla Corbyn knew the answer. “A customer was dining here earlier and saw the video of you arguing with the blackmailers when you delivered their food this noon. Brian appeared later, didn’t he? I saw him in the video, too.”

Kyla Corbyn’s gaze held a hint of doubt. She’d already questioned Grace’s relationship with Brian after he’d waited for her at the store previously. But today’s video shocked her. Brian had even knelt to tie Grace’s shoelace.

Brian was known to be indifferent. His many short-lived girlfriends highlighted his ruthlessness. Although he doted on them—with money and resources—his affection felt shallow. She’d seen him with a girlfriend before; he’d looked at her like a toy, not a person. But in today’s video, Brian’s eyes were clearly full of Grace.

“He must have agreed not to tell anyone about seeing me because of Grace!” Kyla Corbyn thought.

“There’s a video online?” Grace was shocked.

“Yes, let me show you,” Kyla Corbyn said, pulling out her phone. After searching, however, she found nothing. The webpage indicated the content didn’t exist.

“How can this be?” Kyla Corbyn frowned.

Grace also searched, using several keywords, but found no videos of herself and Brian.

Grace pursed her lips. If Kyla had seen the video, its disappearance meant someone had intervened and removed it.
