Chapter 408
Grace immediately suspected Brian. After all, he had the authority to delete the videos, and the speed of the deletion suggested a level of access not readily available to others. Meanwhile, Jason sat grim-faced before his computer, watching a video—the one Kyla Corbyn had mentioned, already purged from the internet.
Grace would have been shocked. The video showed Brian kneeling to tie Grace's shoelace. Jason's fingers tightened on the table as he watched. He and Brian had a long-standing friendship, forged after Jason's return to the Reed family. The Reeds and Harts had always enjoyed a positive relationship, resulting in a strong bond between Jason and Brian. However, Jason knew Brian’s true nature. To Brian, any woman outside his one true love was merely a placeholder.
Jason's lips tightened as he saw Brian's gaze towards Grace in the video. Brian was unaware that Grace was the woman he sought! Had Brian known, he might have acted far differently. Without seeing childhood photos of Grace, Jason never would have connected her to Brian's long-sought love. But he wouldn't let Brian know the truth. Grace would be his, and his alone, for life.
Terrence, nervously watching Jason, noted his superior's unnerving silence. Young Master Reed had viewed the video countless times, yet continued to stare. Terrence dared not imagine what was going through Jason's mind. After all, Young Master Reed's wrath could shake Emerald City to its foundations.
"Don't let anyone who embarrassed Grace today go unpunished," Jason finally said.
"Yes," Terrence replied, relieved that Jason only sought retribution for the slight against Miss Cummins. He'd feared a rash action against Master Hart. A conflict between the Reed and Hart families would have far-reaching consequences.
But then Jason spoke again, plunging Terrence into fresh unease.
"Tell me," Jason said, his gaze fixed on the screen, "does Gracelike men like Brian?"
Terrence nearly choked. "Miss Cummins is your girlfriend, Young Master Reed. She wouldn't like Master Hart."
