Chapter 409
“What if she wasn’t my girlfriend? Would she like Brian then?” Jason pressed, determined to get an answer.
How would he know? However, since his boss was asking, Terrence had no choice but to reply. “I think Miss Cummins is quite reserved about her feelings. She doesn’t change her mind easily once she falls in love.”
“Is that so? She was Sean Stevens’s girlfriend before,” Jason responded coldly.
Terrence felt miserable, like a helpless secretary. “Miss Cummins and Sean Stevens are over now. Sean betrayed her, so she has no feelings for him.”
“Betrayed?” Jason raised an eyebrow.
“Yes. Isn’t it a betrayal for Sean Stevens to break up with Miss Cummins when she needed help? Given Miss Cummins’s character, it’s natural that she wouldn’t forgive betrayal,” Terrence explained.
Jason’s face darkened. His thin lips tightened. If Sean Stevens’s actions constituted betrayal, what about his own actions towards Grace?
A heavy pressure bore down on his chest, making it hard to breathe. He reached for a nearby glass of water, but his hand shook violently. His whole body trembled, so much so that he couldn’t hold the glass. It slipped from his grasp, shattering on the table.
Terrence was startled, his face etched with worry.
Jason stared at the spilled water, then abruptly said, “Get out, Terrence!”
“Yes,” Terrence replied, hurrying from the room.
Jason took a deep breath, leaning back heavily in his chair. His trembling hands covered his face as the corners of his mouth curled into a smile. The smile broadened into a chuckle, then a laugh, finally erupting into choked laughter.
If he had known his decision would cause her so much pain, he never would have done it. If Grace knew what he’d done, would she consider his actions a betrayal?
The thought intensified his trembling. Only a few people knew what had happened. As long as they remained silent, she would never know.
“Forgive me, Grace,” he muttered, his voice thick with anguish. He could never atone for her suffering. If he had known he would love her so much, he never would have allowed her to endure the slightest injustice.
When Grace returned to Reed Residence, the main house was dark. She was about to switch on the lights when someone hugged her from behind. The familiar embrace and scent revealed her companion's identity.
