Chapter 417
Jason leisurely sipped his coffee, chatting with Brian instead of discussing anything that might disrupt Emerald City. Brian, slowly losing the gleam in his eyes, took another sip. The tension between them had vanished, replaced by the easy camaraderie of friends.
Kyla Corbyn felt momentarily overwhelmed. Other patrons, particularly women, occasionally glanced at the pair; they looked like celebrities. One woman even started to photograph them, aiming her phone at Jason and Brian. Before she could take the picture, a large hand stopped her.
It was Jason's bodyguard. "The president doesn't like being photographed," he said flatly. "If you insist, I'll have to escort you out."
The woman was speechless. Was that a threat? But seeing the bodyguard's impassive face and imposing physique, she realized that protesting would only humiliate her. Dejectedly, she paid her bill and left.
The other customers, who might have considered taking a surreptitious photo, abandoned the idea.
Just then, Grace arrived on her electric bike. Seeing Jason and Brian at the same table stunned her. What was going on? They werehaving coffee? People like them wouldn't come here for coffee, even if they wanted to. She felt momentarily overwhelmed.
Kyla Corbyn rushed over, pulling Grace aside. "Mr. Hart is here for you, Grace," she explained, omitting Jason's purpose because he hadn't revealed it.
Before Brian could rise, Jason stood and walked toward Grace.
"Why are you here?" Grace asked.
"I finished work at the office and wanted to see you," Jason replied.
Kyla Corbyn looked at them in surprise. "Do you know this gentleman, Grace?"
"Well, yes. He's…" Grace hesitated. She hadn't publicly acknowledged their relationship, despite dating Jason.
"Hmm? What's the matter? Aren't you going to introduce me to the owner of this restaurant?" Jason smiled at Grace.
