Chapter 428

Although Kyla Corbyn had known Martin Weiss for years, she'd never met Jason Reed, as their families had no prior business dealings. Now, she'd encountered him twice in two days, and he seemed constantly at Grace's side. Recalling Jason's earlier warning, Kyla watched Grace, puzzled. She wondered if Grace's affection for Jason was a blessing or a curse, but ultimately hoped for Grace's happiness.

"Oh, I forgot to buy fruit," Grace said, searching her phone. "Nelson mentioned wanting pomegranates while he's in the hospital." (Grace, of course, meant Nelson had communicated this in sign language.)

"No need, Grace," Kyla quickly replied. "You already bought Nelson toys. I'll get the pomegranates later."

"It's okay, I'll be quick," Grace insisted. "There's a fruit stand by the hospital entrance. I promised Nelson." She hurried out of the ward.

This left Kyla, Mrs. Corbyn, and Jason alone. Mrs. Corbyn, informed of Jason's identity by her daughter the previous day, felt uncomfortable sharing a ward with such a powerful man and pretended to watch her grandson.

Kyla offered, "Young Master Reed, would you like some tea?"

"No need," Jason replied, his gaze on the sleeping Nelson. "This childโ€ฆ is he yours and Martin Weiss's?"

The question shocked both women. Mrs. Corbyn nearly leaped from her chair. Kyla, however, remained calmer. "Is that from your investigation?" she asked.

"Yes," Jason admitted, a slight smile playing on his lips. "But it's an inference based on timing. More interestingly, Martin Weiss seems unaware he has a son."

Kyla pursed her lips. "Nelson is solely my son. Martin never wanted him, so he has nothing to do with Nelson. Young Master Reed, you said you wouldn't interfere in my affairs with Martin Weiss. Please don't reveal Nelson's existence."

"Please, Young Master Reed!" Mrs. Corbyn pleaded, rising to nearly kneel before him.

Kyla quickly stopped her mother, fearing her desperation would offend Jason.

"I said I'm not interested in your affairs with Martin Weiss," Jason said, glancing at Nelson. "However, Grace seemsโ€ฆ fond of the child. He's lucky Grace likes him; let's say he's helped himself."

Mrs. Corbyn was confused, but Kyla understood. She'd wondered about the sudden specialist consultation for Nelson and the significant discount on medical fees and rehabilitationโ€”a stroke of luck, or something more?
