Chapter 430
"Do you really want to stroll here?" Grace asked incredulously.
"Is there a problem?" Jason retorted. "Didn't you take me to a night market last time? This place is similar."
"But I didn't know your identity then," Grace said. Had she known he was Jason, she wouldn't have taken him to buy clothes.
"What's the difference? Past or future, I'm your Jay," Jason said thoughtfully.
That look on his face… Grace felt blissful. "Then… let's stroll," she said, pursing her lips. Nevertheless, she followed him around the food court.
In college, she had frequented the area with classmates. However, work had changed her routine. Later, after three years in jail, finding food and clothes was a struggle; the idea of strolling here seemed a distant luxury.
Evening was settling, and the crowd was growing. Grace and Jason walked around, buying snacks and skewers.
The street was primarily a food market, but also featured stalls selling clothes, accessories, gadgets, and knick-knacks. Items were inexpensive, attracting many students.
Grace noticed many young women glancing at Jason. To the average person, he was strikingly handsome, comparable to a top idol. Previously, his bangs had obscured his eyes, but now, combed back, his handsome face was fully revealed.
Passing a hair accessory stall, Grace said, "I need some hairbands. Mine are losing their elasticity." She usually bought cheap ones—five dollars for a pack—online. But, seeing a stall, she decided to buy them there.
Jason glanced at her hairband; a closer look revealed the worn white rubber band showing through the black covering.
Grace squatted to examine the hair ties, chose the cheapest, and began bargaining. Before she finished, Jason pulled her away.
"Hey, I wasn't done negotiating," Grace protested.
"I'll buy them for you," Jason said, a hint of constraint in his voice. He hadn't realized she used such cheap, worn-out bands. Even though they were inexpensive, she still bargained.
An indescribable feeling washed over him.
"But I…" Grace started, but Jason stopped abruptly, turning to her. "Grace, is it really that hard for you to accept something from me?"
