Chapter 64

Sean cleared his throat. "What business is this concerning?"

Terrence smiled faintly. "You'll know when you meet Mr. Reed."

Sean loosened his collar. He was warm and increasingly anxious.

The car stopped at the Reed residence. Sean followed Terrence inside and saw Jason sitting on the sofa, playing with an invitation. As Sean approached, he saw it was for the engagement banquet he and Lily had invited Jason to.

"We meet again," Jason said quietly.

Sean was stunned. Jason wore an elegant gray-blue suit, his hair combed back, revealing a smooth forehead. His features were strong and even. Sean wasn't usually observant of men's appearances, but Jason Reed was undeniably striking. He radiated powerโ€”a quiet, absolute confidence that conveyed complete control.

His smile was languid, yet arrogant. It was no surprise he attracted many women. In upper circles, young ladies vied for his attention, drawn to his background and appearance. However, when Jason's dark eyes met Sean's, Sean felt like he was being observed by a wild animal.

His blood ran cold; his breathing grew ragged. It was like the feeling from last night, but then he had been hidden in the shadows, while Jason was in the open. He had seen Jason, but Jason shouldn't have seen him clearly. Now, he was completely exposed.

Sean gave a dry chuckle. "Yes." He wondered if Jason's "again" referred to last night, but Jason answered his unspoken question:

"Did you mention last night's events to anyone?" Jason asked casuallyโ€”a casualness that was far from genuine.

Sean felt the threat like a drawn sword. His hands trembled, his heart pounded. He was terrified.

This visit was because of last night! His hunch was confirmed. Jason Reed was the man he'd seen holding Grace at the intersection, visiting her in her low-income housingโ€”the man in ragged clothes and unkempt hair. And he was the same man standing before him now. Jason and Grace were together.

"I asked you a question," Jason reminded him softly.

"No, I didn't mention it to anyone," Sean said.

"That's good," Jason said. "I don't want anyone else to know about this."

Sean swallowed hard. He didn't know what Jason wanted, but revealing his knowledge wouldn't bode well. The pressure in the room felt suffocating.

"Also, don't go there again. I don't care why you were there, but since you broke up with Grace, stay away from her. Is that clear?"

Sean was speechless. Jason's tone was threatening, but the underlying possessiveness was even more unsettling. Jason seemed to want Graceโ€ฆ entirely to himself.

Could Jason actually have feelings for Grace? The thought sent a chill down Sean's spine.

"I understand," Sean said, struggling to speak.

"Good. Terrence, see Mr. Stevens out," Jason instructed.

Terrence nodded.

Before leaving, Sean couldn't resist asking, "Mr. Reed, what is the nature of your relationship with Graceโ€ฆ?"
