Chapter 45
Ms. Olivia's praise hinted that Kai's identity was far more significant than initially perceived. Herman raised his teacup, glancing at Kai from the corner of his eye. He smiled, noticing Helena's dazed state. "Helena, hurry and sign," he urged. The $300 million contract wouldn't be official until both parties signed. The urgency was understandable. Helena, however, seemed terrified by the enormity of the contract.
"What are you waiting for, Helena?" Hubert prompted softly.
Kai reviewed the contract, his expression shifting. "Ms. Olivia, did you give us the wrong contract?" His usually ruthless demeanor hardened, eliciting a palpable tension.
Olivia, startled, turned sharply to Alice. "Did you give them the wrong contract?"
Alice trembled, stammering, "No… it can't be. I checked it twelve times…"
Ms. Olivia, recently returned from overseas, was poised to collaborate with the Lewises on a $300 million deal. The stakes were high. Olivia trusted Alice's competence; otherwise, she wouldn't have kept her as her secretary.
Kai returned the contract. "My girlfriend's company is Rococo. You want to cooperate with Rococo, not Baroque!"
Alice immediately explained, "We want to cooperate with Baroque. Rococo produces phones; Baroque produces chips. We're interested in Baroque's phone chips…"
Silence descended upon the villa. Time seemed to stand still.
Kai, experienced in billion-dollar deals, frowned. "Ms. Olivia, are you sure you want Baroque, not Rococo?"
"It… shouldn't be wrong, right?" Olivia breathed, her mind racing. Time constraints had prevented thorough research on the Lewises. She knew they had two companies: Baroque (chips) and Rococo (phones). Theo had assured her that acquiring chips from Baroque wouldn't be a problem. The crucial question remained: was this man Nash?
Alice, sensing Olivia's uncertainty, cautiously asked, "Mr. Kai, do you have a middle name starting with 'N'…"
Kai shook his head. "No."
Alice, turning awkwardly to Olivia, explained, "Oli, you don't know Mr. Watson. He's Walter Watson's grandson—the richest man in Jonford!"
Kai, while prominent in Jonford, didn't usually attract the attention of top-ten enterprise CEOs, especially given Olivia's frequent international travel.
Olivia felt mortified, having mistaken Kai for Nash and Helena for Baroque's CEO.
Alice stated solemnly, "Drake Group wishes to cooperate with Baroque…"
Hubert collapsed, his face pale and lifeless. Rooney sat stunned, her mind blank. Drake Group wanted to collaborate with Baroque? She'd mocked Lauren relentlessly; the irony was overwhelming.
"No… that can't be…" Helena, pale and desperate, clung to Kai's arm. "Kai, this isn't true, is it? Ms. Olivia must have the wrong contract, right?"
