Chapter 51

Green bubbles appeared in the soup after it heated on the gas stove. What was this? It looked like something from a toilet. Queenie recoiled, even Walter frowned. He glanced at other tables; several had ordered the same soup and were eating it enthusiastically. Relieved, Walter said lightly, “Queenie… Dr. Calcraft specially ordered this for you. You shouldn’t ignore his kindness.”

Queenie glared at Nash, wishing she could tear him apart. Nash ignored her and ate his chicken noodle soup. Queenie closed her eyes, took deep breaths, then scooped a spoonful of the soup, bringing it to her mouth and blowing gently. All eyes were on her. She turned to the staring migrant workers and barked, “What are you looking at? I'll gouge your eyes out if you don't stop.” They quickly averted their gaze.

Queenie examined the thick, yellow-green soup, her expression twisting. Pinching her nose, she sipped it. The taste was bitter, smelling of mud and grass, with a confusing mix of seasonings.

“Does it taste good?” Nash asked.

Queenie remained silent, eating the unappetizing soup with displeasure. Finishing a small bowl, she looked at her grandfather with despair. “Grandpa, I’m full…”

Walter’s face darkened. “You must finish it.”

Queenie, disobeying her grandfather's wishes, and began another bowl, while simultaneously searching her phone for “haggis soup.”

Walter toasted Nash again. “When will you be free, Dr. Calcraft? My wife’s health has declined recently. I’m afraid—”

“My consultation fee is a hundred million. We can proceed after we finish eating.”

A hundred million! Walter’s eyes narrowed. This man was brazen. He’d just offered a hundred million in compensation, believing Brian's skills warranted it. Yet, Nash demanded another hundred million. Even Thomas wouldn't have dared ask for so much. After a moment, Walter laughed. “A hundred million is acceptable if you can heal my wife, Dr. Calcraft.”

A gurgling sound. Queenie, having learned how haggis soup was made, vomited, clutching her chest. Her face was pale, her eyes filled with fear. Stomach cramps wracked her.

Nash moved his chair back in disgust. Brian whispered, “Grandmaster, did our joke go too far?” Haggis soup, with its unusual ingredients, was unpalatable to many, especially women, let alone one from a wealthy family.

“I didn’t force her, and it’s not inedible,” Nash said disapprovingly.

Queenie glared furiously. “Calcraft, I’ll remember this!”

Nash replied lightly, “No thanks. I already have a girlfriend!”

Queenie, furious, grabbed her bag and stormed out.

Walter smiled wryly. “Don’t mind her, Dr. Calcraft. She’s been spoiled since childhood and can’t handle hardship.”

Nash replied calmly, “I don’t care about your family’s tolerance for hardship, but remind them not to mess with me. I’ll forget about Kai, but if it happens again, a car won’t be the only thing smashed.”
