the HR department asked Selena to handle him. Whatever the reason, the opportunity had landed in Yarrick’s lap. As the president’s personal secretary, it felt like he had made it big overnight. It didn’t matter which department or their heads; the IT department’s people who had looked down on him would be packing their things before the day was over.
“Alright then, Mr. Sutton. Now, here’s your employment contract. Go ahead and sign it,” Christina said.
Yarrick flipped through the employment contract, and the more he read, the more shocked he became.
The base salary was 10 thousand dollars. He also had a phone bill allowance of a hundred dollars, a food allowance of 500 dollars, and another 500 dollars of housing subsidy.
After skimming through the rest, Yarrick looked up at Christina with wide eyes filled with disbelief.
“Is something wrong, Mr. Sutton? Aren’t you satisfied with the salary?” Christina asked.
“No, no, it’s not that, Ms. Chapman. I have a driver’s license, but I don’t have a car. I probably won’t need that fuel allowance.” Besides, his hometown was just steps away. He didn’t need to drive.
“Not a problem. The company’s assigning you an Audi A7L. That’s a direct order from the president herself. Her health isn’t great, so she’ll need you to drive her around a lot. Not having a car simply won’t do,” Christina explained.
As she spoke, Christina opened a drawer, pulled out a sleek car key, and set it gently in front of him.
As a broke man, Yarrick had never driven a car as good as an Audi A7L. He never thought he would get an expensive car as a secretary. This felt surreal.
“This was the last secretary’s. She has already left the company, so now, it’s yours. The car’s parked in the underground garage, level B. You can take a look later.”
“Oh… Alright. Thanks, Ms. Chapman,” Yarrick thanked Christina, feeling relieved.
If the previous assistant had a company car, it only made sense he’d inherit it.
The benefits listed in the contract were on a whole different level than what he was used to. Back in the IT department, his monthly salary was barely five thousand dollars.
It was enough to scrape by in a city like Tilburg, but by the end of the month, he was always down to almost nothing.
But as the president’s secretary, he could live much more comfortably. He could finally send money home and make life easier for his parents. They wouldn’t have to work so tirelessly.
Without a second thought, Yarrick picked up the pen and signed the contract.
“Alright then, Mr. Sutton. Let’s take a look at your new office,” Christina said.
Yarrick tucked the car key into his pocket, his heart pounding with excitement. “Yes, of course, Ms. Chapman.”
Yarrick was even getting his own office. Being a secretary just kept getting better.
He followed Christina into the elevator, and they rode it all the way to the top floor.
Behind a sleek glass door was the president’s wing. The first thing that caught Yarrick’s eye was a polished reception desk, behind which sat a stunning young woman.
“Ms. Chapman, welcome. And this handsome gentleman?” she asked with a bright, curious smile.
“Wendy, this is our new executive secretary, Mr. Yarrick Sutton. Get the other secretary’s office ready for him, would you?”
“Of course, Ms. Chapman! Welcome aboard, Mr. Sutton!” Wendy Carson beamed at Yarrick and led him enthusiastically.
“Thank you very much,” Yarrick said with a polite smile.
He walked past the receptionist and followed Christina.
“Mr. Sutton, this large office here belongs to the president. I’ll have Wendy register your fingerprint access later,” Christina explained as they walked. “This smaller unit here is yours.”
The door was already open, and it didn’t have a fingerprint scanner installed.
As Christina stepped into the office, Yarrick followed and instantly fell in love with the space. This place looked too good to be a secretary’s office.
The place had at least a few hundred square feet. A massive desk sat near the window, paired with a sleek, high-back leather chair that looked like it belonged to a president. There was a plush couch, stylish shelving, and even a glass fish tank with a huge fish gliding lazily through the water.
This was unbelievable.
Just as Yarrick was soaking it all in, footsteps echoed from the hallway.
“Ms. Chapman, here’s the key to the office,” Wendy said.
“Alright, Yarrick, this key’s yours now. This office is officially yours,” Christina said warmly.
“Right,” Yarrick mumbled, scratching his head. He felt like this was a dream.
