sat across from him.
“The head of HR called me over, explained the position, and told me the benefits. I saw the salary and allowances. Who doesn’t want to make more money, right?” Yarrick explained with a sheepish grin. However, he really didn’t know why Christina chose him.
If the president were the Haley he married, then it would all make perfect sense. But at the moment, Yarrick couldn’t be sure if the two were the same person.
“Come on, forget about the salary! That’s nothing! The president’s secretary! No one would dare defy you! You’re being second in command! Everyone answers to you! You’re like the king’s guard or something!” Michael raved.
Yarrick rubbed his hands. “Okay. But seriously, this is a huge step up. I haven’t even done secretarial work before. For all I know, I could get kicked back down after a couple of days.”
“No way, man! Trust me!” Michael leaned forward, his eyes sharp. “Think about it. Guys like us, fresh out of college, might be cute, but we’re nothing!” Michael quickly caught on.
He paused, then added, “I mean, I did well in my previous job, but nobody offered me the job. Why do you think they chose you as the president’s secretary? That has to mean something!”
“Yarrick, come on. You’ve got the looks, the build, the charm, and you even have that innocent aura that older women like. Besides, I heard that the president is a super-rich and single woman in her thirties. Yarrick, you’re about to get rich! I think the president has taken a liking to you and wants to take you under her wing!”
As Michael rambled on, his expression slowly shifted into one of shock. It sounded like this explanation was the most logical.
“Well, what? You’re saying the president is into me? That’s what the guys were hinting at! Apparently, she’s like, a cougar! Feeling the heat, huh? And didn’t you always say you like older women?” Michael teased.
“Of course, I like older and mature women! Don’t you have the same taste?” Yarrick questioned him back.
“Of course! But I’ve never had the chance!”
Yarrick was surprised to hear Michael say that. If that was the case, then the president wasn’t Haley.
If only I had been that lucky. It was impossible for him to get so lucky.
“Hey, you gotta look out for me now. You’ve seriously made it big!” Michael joked.
“Only if I’ve actually got what it takes,” Yarrick said with a laugh.
Yarrick stood up and said sheepishly, “I should head back to the IT department and pack up my things. Clara, right? I’m the president’s secretary now, and I haven’t even met her yet.”
Michael gave him a wink. “Oh, that’s only a matter of time. I heard she’s been recovering at home. You’ve got the perfect chance to, you know… win her over. Maybe she already likes you!”
“Nah, nah,” Yarrick quickly waved his hands.
He was a married man now. And Haley wasn’t just beautiful; she was confident, graceful, and the kindest woman you could ever meet. He wouldn’t betray her, no matter who the president was. He wasn’t the type to break his principles.
“What? You don’t have a brain? If fate hands you a golden opportunity, you’d better grab it!”
Yarrick just smiled. It didn’t matter how rich or stunning the president was. He was loyal to Hailey.
He didn’t want to reveal the whole marriage thing and his relationship with Haley just yet. He believed everything would fall into place after they got together for real.
The two of them chatted all the way back to the IT department.
“Wait, did you actually become the president’s secretary?!”
“No way, is that appointment email actually about you?!”
“Seriously? You’ve only been here a week, and the president already noticed you?!”
“Of course, it’s him! Look at him. He’s got the looks and the body. He’s literally every rich woman’s dream guy!”
“Damn! Yarrick, you’re swimming with the big fish now, man!”
“Yarrick, you’d better take care of your old team now that you’ve made it big!”
The moment Yarrick and Michael stepped into the department, his colleagues swarmed around them, their
