Chapter 106
"Alright, Manuel, if you kneel, I'll tell you all about my relationship with Angel. What do you say?"
Caleb's anger flared. "Selina, mind your manners! Manuel is your brother! Are you seriously asking him to kneel and beg you?"
Before Caleb could finish, Selina interrupted. "Manuel, since when do you care about this lapdog's opinion? You want to appeal to me; that's the attitude you should bring."
"Who are you calling a lapdog?!" Lydia abruptly kicked Caleb in the stomach, causing him to gasp in pain. She then dragged him away. "Caleb!" Manuel cried out, concerned, but Selina remained unmoved. "Or how about you and your lapdog just disappear? Spare me the disgrace of looking at you two."
"Selina, you're asking too much."
"Am I? Well, if you knew you'd be humiliated and still came crawling back, doesn't that make you a masochist? You enjoy me walking all over you, don't you?"
Manuel knew arguing was futile. He couldn't kneel, but he couldn't leave either; leaving meant losing any chance of seeing Angel again. He desperately needed a solution.
He noticed dice on Selina's desk. His lips tightened. "Fine, Selina. I'll bet with you. If you guess the dice roll correctly, I'll kneel. But if I win, you tell me everything about Angel!"
Selina laughed coldly. "Manuel, have you lost your mind? You want to bet with me? You better have something worth my while. I couldn't care less about your kneeling."
"What do you want then?!"
"If you lose, you not only kneel, but you also drink a glass of this." Selina gestured towards her untouched Night Shimmer cocktail.
That's it? Manuel suspected Selina wouldn't let him off easily, but he had no choice. He swallowed hard. "Who shakes? You or me?"
Selina drawled, "Gentlemen first."
This was what he wanted. He grabbed the dice, shaking them.
Selina watched, arms crossed, the sea breeze playing in her hair. Moonlight illuminated her features. When Manuel made a certain move, a glint appeared in her eyes.
He slammed the dice cup on the table, eyes locked on Selina. "High or low?"
Without hesitation, Selina placed a hand on the table and said, "Low."
Relief washed over Manuel before he lifted the cup. The dice showed 6, 2, and 1—low.
Manuel's eyes widened. "How...?"
"When you put the dice in the cup, you subtly manipulated their positions. Your shaking technique influences the roll. It's a 50/50 gamble since the house calls first. A neat trick, anticipating the roll without revealing your method."
Manuel realized the truth. "You knew from the start… When you touched the table, you were manipulating the dice? Such a subtle vibration? How?"
He’d learned this technique in Silverpeak from a dealer. He’d spent a month mastering it! He couldn’t understand Selina; her skill far surpassed anything he'd heard about her. The naive Mr. Harvey would consider such a trick a prized possession. Yet Selina effortlessly used it against him. "All bets are final. Kneel."
Manuel's lips quivered, facing the humiliation. Could he do it?
"Looking for an excuse?" Selina pressed her phone. A recording of their bet played.
"You recorded it?" Manuel was stunned.
"To deal with the Harvey family's shameless behavior, I took precautions—much like your refusal to kneel despite losing. Isn't that thick-skinned?" Clenching his teeth, Manuel reluctantly dropped to one knee.
"Shouldn't a proper kneel be on both knees? What is this half-kneeling?"
"I agreed to kneel, but I didn't specify how. You weren't clear initially, so you can't blame me! Now, tell me about your relationship with Angel." Kneeling on both knees would be a lifelong mark of shame.
Selina barely concealed her contempt, witnessing another shameless display from the Harveys. She wondered if she truly shared their blood.
"You shouldn't forget my second condition."
Selina poured Night Shimmer over Manuel's head. The icy chill jolted him, bringing back memories of humiliation at the Starlight Club. "Selina, you… you said I had to drink it!"
"I told you to drink, but I didn't specify how. I haven't broken any rules."
Looking down at the soaked Manuel, Selina said, "Now, let me tell you about my relationship with Angel. It's quite simple: I am Angel."
