Chapter 112

David loved gambling, but he loved life even more. Selina, having learned his lesson this time, saw a glimmer of hope. He might not fully reform, but at least he’d be more cautious. Otherwise, for a reckless gambler who didn't even value his own life, Selina was out of options, short of imprisoning him. But that was too extreme, likely causing a mental breakdown.

"What should I do?" Susie cried, covering her face. Nora, equally distressed, knelt to comfort her along with the diner owner's wife. Selina said calmly, "Nora, take Susie home. I'll handle this."

"I'm so sorry, Selina. I had no idea Uncle David would cause such a scene. We were supposed to celebrate."

Selina smiled. "It's okay, we're family. Your problems are mine too."

Reassured, Nora quickly escorted the distraught Susie away.

Herbert had observed the entire scene with detached interest. Selina ignored him, but he stepped in front of her.

Selina glanced at him. "What do you want?"

"So, you're Trevon's mysterious wife?" Herbert asked.

He wasn't surprised by Selina's background initially. The Brady family's pressure on Trevon to marry, combined with his rebellious nature, led them to expect a trophy wife. But Selina was far from the decorative figure he'd imagined; she wielded the family's power effectively.

"Yes, I am."

"You handled things well earlier. But was that courage Trevon's? How does it feel spending the Brady family's money and assuming their airs?"

Herbert's sarcasm was evident. Though he acknowledged Selina's beauty, the Brady family had thoroughly investigated her past after Trevon's unexpected marriage. Her incomplete high school education, past struggles, and survival tactics were all traits they would normally shun, especially for Trevon, the family head. In Samuel's eyes, aside from her looks, Selina was worthless.

Herbert deeply respected Trevon and couldn't accept Selina as his wife. This was his chance to undermine her.

"Oh, I'm having a blast spending my honey's money and acting high and mighty. Feels fantastic, doesn't it? Annoyed? Bite me."

Selina's sharp retort left Herbert speechless. Most women, facing his ridicule, would have fled in shame. But not Selina. Her audacity shocked him. He mused, "What was Trevon thinking? Even rebelling against the family, he shouldn't ruin his life by marrying such a woman."

Selina disregarded his opinion. She expected the Brady family to be like the Hudsons, judging superficially. She had no obligation to prove herself. If they wanted to confront her, she'd take it. A life spent merely parading their affection would be dull.

Herbert's frustration was palpable. "You casually ordered David's hand to be chopped off, but do you think Susie won't hate you later? She's Trevon's stepmother. Offending her won't be easy in elite circles."

"When Susie sees David's change, she won't hate me. She'll regret not doing it sooner. And this is my business, none of yours."

Selina left. Herbert saw this as cowardly flight. He wouldn't let her escape his verbal lashing so easily. He forcefully shut the door Selina was opening.

"You're asking for death," Selina said.

Her icy gaze sent a chill down Herbert's spine. She unceremoniously kicked his leg. Caught off guard, he staggered. Then, she grabbed his hair.

"Get your hands off me," Herbert protested.

Feeling his scalp might be ripped off, he heard Selina's frosty command, "Apologize."

He was incredulous. "You're shameless! You think just because Trevon chose you…"

Selina cut him off with a sharp click of her tongue and kneed him in the nose. The pain was intense, though no blood flowed. She used methods inflicting deep pain without visible injury.

Releasing him, she called Trevon. His face appeared on screen. "Honey, finished dinner so soon?"

"Little incident. Here, Herbert, say hello to Trevon."

Selina turned the camera to Herbert. Seeing him gasping, Trevon narrowed his eyes. "Herbert, did you bother Selina?"

"I didn't," Herbert denied.

He glared resentfully. He'd been thrashed, yet it seemed he was the bully. But he couldn't afford to complain to Trevon. He couldn't disappoint him.
