Chapter 127
Selina smiled contemptuously at Cora and Ashley. "Those are no ordinary earrings. They're heirlooms, passed down from ancient times. You couldn't buy them for fifteen million dollars."
Cora sneered. "Fifteen million dollars? Don't be ridiculous. The auction items were all appraised. Your ignorance is astounding!"
Sara remained silent, also finding Selina's claims unbelievable. Selina, she felt, was simply trying to save face.
"Wow, Mrs. Clark, you're amazing. I concede. I'm leaving now," Selina declared, unwilling to continue the argument. Humming cheerfully, she departed. Cora, despite winning, felt strangely unsettled by Selina's unconcerned demeanor. Her victory felt less sweet.
Ashley offered comfort. "Mrs. Clark, please don't be upset with Selina. She's… difficult. We understand."
Ashley quickly cheered Cora. Cora chuckled, touching Ashley's head. "You two are sisters, but so different! Selina's arrogant, while you're gentle and kind. Humph, I don't care about that woman. She lost, and I won! Come on, Ashley, pick one; it's yours."
Selina planned to meet Herbert and return to Insight Group, and also to send Trevon a photo of the earrings. Suddenly, approaching footsteps halted her. She looked up and saw Sara. "What do you want?" she asked with disgust.
She found it ironic. Once, she had pursued Sara; now, she couldn't seem to escape her. Despite her efforts to be a good daughter, Sara had always favored Ashley. Selina had accepted this, ceasing her attempts to claim her place in the Harvey family; yet, here was Sara.
Sara explained, "Selina… you were wrongly accused of theft several times at the Harvey residence. We've found the culprit—a servant who confessed to framing you out of jealousy. She's fled abroad, but the police have been notified, and we'll clear your name."
Selina laughed. She had expected something significant, not this.
Sara continued, "I'm sorry, Selina. We misjudged you. Quinton and Manuel want to apologize as well."
Sara expected a grateful response, but Selina retorted mercilessly, "I've never seen such confident, arrogant apologies. You've misjudged me countless times. Shouldn't you be begging for forgiveness on your knees?"
Sara's face hardened. "Selina… what did you say? Kneel? Are you afraid of God's punishment? I'm your mother!"
"God's punishment? I don't care. Have you ever treated me as your daughter? Beyond a DNA test, I have nothing to do with you!"
Sara was shocked. "How can you say that? Do you know how hard I worked to find you?"
Selina interrupted coldly, "I don't want to hear your excuses. Your efforts were all about appeasing your guilt. How hypocritical! You gave birth to a daughter and abandoned her. You want me to believe in your supposed efforts to win my respect? Do you remember how you treated me? You never truly believed in me!"
"And now, after all this time, you found the culprit? The person who framed me is still out there! How dare you apologize!"
Sara, guilt-stricken, felt cornered. However, she caught a crucial detail. "The person who framed you… what do you mean?"
Selina replied, "Literally. You're all so foolish, so easily manipulated. Don't pretend to be pitiful; it's disgusting!"
She saw no need to reveal the culprit's identity. Even if she did, Sara would likely dismiss it as an attempt to blame Ashley. She would simply watch how Ashley's actions ultimately affected the Harvey family.
Ashley, noticing Sara's absence, rushed to create a diversion. Hearing the conversation, her heart nearly stopped. Considering Selina's sudden shift, she suspected Selina might have discovered something. She rushed forward, feigning tears. "Selina, please don't fight with Mommy. Am I the cause of your unhappiness?"
Selina, arms crossed, regarded her coldly. The best actress's performance, free of charge. she thought.
Ashley's tears flowed freely. "Selina, I know you hate me. Mommy has been heartbroken since you left the Harvey residence. If you resent the Harvey family because of me, I'll leave. You can be the only daughter."
