Chapter 129
Timothy couldn't believe what he was hearing. He thought, Has Trevon lost his mind? Marrying Selina, a mere trophy wife unworthy of him, just to silence gossip? It's ludicrous to jeopardize Insight Group and the Brady family's reputation over such a trivial matter! The elders would never condone this. How can Trevon remain so calm? And to claim it was all his doing? That's a joke!
"If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up," Trevon added. Before Timothy could respond, Trevon ended the call. The disconnected tone echoed, leaving Timothy petrified.
Cora, who had overheard, slammed her coffee cup on the floor. "Damn it, what is Trevon playing at? Selina's running wild, and he doesn't lift a finger!"
Timothy composed himself. "Mom, don't get worked up. Trevon wouldn't ignore this. He likely avoids showing weakness in front of us."
"Even so, his wife is behaving like a mad dog, and he treats the victims with disdain! It's infuriating!" Cora fumed.
"It's fine. As long as we know Selina won't get away with it, that's enough," Timothy said philosophically. He understood Trevon's need to maintain public composure. How he handled Selina privately was another matter.
When Selina returned to Insight Group and entered Trevon's office, Herbert reported on the charity auction, awaiting feedback. He received only a nonchalant "hm," leaving him puzzled. His dismissal only makes sense if he's trying to get rid of me to be with Selina. No way, right? But before the door closed, Herbert saw Trevon embrace Selina. Oh my god! he cried inwardly.
Selina, nestled in Trevon's arms, admired her latest acquisition. "Honey, these crescent earrings are valuable—and they'll look stunning on me. I'm envisioning a vintage outfit." "Perfect. I'd like to see that," Trevon replied. He recognized the earrings' value; his Brady family upbringing honed his eye for antiques, though he couldn't pinpoint their era. No wonder they were such a bargain at the auction.
"Honey, since when are you into antiques?" Trevon asked, intrigued.
Selina rolled her eyes. "You think my jewelry designs appear from thin air? I browse Clusian jewelry from various dynasties. I have a photographic memory, and these earrings' design captivated me."
"You're impressive!" Trevon praised, hugging her closer. "About that reward you promised...?"
Trevon had been anticipating it, especially after letting Selina attend the auction for hours.
"Alright, here you go," Selina said, kissing him. Afterward, Trevon, still unsatisfied, frowned slightly. "That's it? How about a few more?" Selina obliged. Their relationship had warmed considerably. Selina readily met Trevon's playful demands.
Seeing Selina's compliance, Trevon playfully flicked her nose. "Tonight, I'll make you my homemade chocolate cupcakes."
Selina's eyes lit up. "Hurray, you're the best!"
Trevon smiled. "Speaking of which, did you have fun today? Timothy even called, tattling on you."
"What a loser! Can't argue with me, so he runs to tattle. Hilarious! Clark Group will probably go bankrupt," Selina sneered, disgusted by her past engagement to Timothy and its perceived blemish on her resume.
"Speaking of which, weren't you engaged to the Clark family?" Trevon asked, his eyes narrowing dangerously. Selina touched his cheek. "Hmm? Jealous? Envious? Possessive?"
"Yes," Trevon said, his tone deadly serious. "The urge to finish off that fool is strong." Anyone who touched his woman signed their death warrant.
"Go for it, honey. I support you! But remember, we're in a lawful society," Selina teased. "Perfect timing; there's a real estate development tender, and Clark Group is our competitor. They probably can't afford to bid."
Trevon thought, Not much, just a few billion—let the Clark family sober up!
The next day, Selina planned a break to authenticate her earrings, eager to flaunt the report to Cora.
Trevon was displeased. "Taking a leave again? You're irresponsible."
"Just two hours, honey. I'll have a reward for you," Selina bargained. Keeping Trevon happy ensured a steady supply of cupcakes.
Trevon considered it. "There's a gala tonight. You'll be accompanying me."
Selina raised an eyebrow. "Oh? What sort of gala requires our mighty CEO's presence?"
