Chapter 77
Selina tapped gently on the back of Trevon's hand, resting on her shoulder. "Missed you," she whispered, her voice tender. "What about you? Did you think of me during your hectic workday, honey?"
"Of course," Trevon replied, "but honey, you say you miss me but didn't swing by the office. It makes me think you're fibbing."
"Well, I was busy keeping Nora company."
"Keeping Nora company is more important than satisfying your husband?"
Nora stood silently, stunned. The shock wasn't just the sudden display of affection; it was that her brother, Trevon—known for his coldness, especially around women—was the one delivering these cheesy lines. The thought gave her the heebie-jeebies. Before she could process it, Trevon whisked Selina away, leaving Nora feeling disoriented. "Am I adopted?" she mumbled repeatedly.
During dinner, Trevon showered Selina with attention, piling her plate high with lobster, abalone, and other delicacies. "Honey, you're too skinny. Eat more meat. That's what makes you beautiful."
Nora nibbled on her vegetables, watching Trevon's attentive service. Finally, she couldn't bear it. "Trevon, I want some lobster too!" She'd never seen him treat Selina like this.
Trevon didn't even look at her. "What's the matter? Can't handle it yourself?"
Nora pouted. "Trevon, you're my real brother, aren't you? Do you have any idea how much your words hurt your little sister?" This was a whole new level of "forget your sister when you have a wife."
Selina handed Nora a peeled lobster. "Here, Nora, try this. I peeled it just for you."
Nora stuck her tongue out at Trevon. "Selina's the best, not like some heartless brother of mine!"
"Don't spoil her too much, or she might never learn to stand on her own two feet," Trevon called out.
Selina soothed his jealousy, preparing a piece of lobster for him. "Alright, alright, honey, here's your share. You've got it all." His mood visibly brightened. A jealous man is often easily pleased.
Later, Nora, having monopolized Selina's time all day, insisted on staying the night. Trevon, however, was having none of it. He bundled her into the car and sent her home. The little girl had monopolized my wife all day, and now she wants more? In your dreams! he thought.
Locked in the car, Nora brushed her bangs aside. "Trevon, I know you're possessive, but since you found me such an awesome sister-in-law, treat her right, will ya?"
"She's my wife. If I don't treat her well, who will? I don't need a reminder from you, kiddo."
Nora flipped him the bird and was driven away.
When Trevon returned, Selina leaned against the wall. "Actually, if Nora wants to stay, you should have just let her. She is your sister, after all."
"I won't allow it. She's had you to herself long enough. She even wanted to share a bed with you tonight. Dream on," Trevon retorted.
He gently brushed hair behind her ear. "Even I haven't shared a bed with you yet, my wife," he said, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
"Have you forgotten our marriage is just a contract? You're quite serious, honey," Selina teased.
"Yeah, and I'm getting more hooked by the minute. What am I to do, honey?" Trevon confessed, his affection undeniable.
Selina met his gaze calmly. "Even knowing I'm a hot mess with unresolved issues, that I can't be the supportive spouse you might need, and might even hold you back?"
"Honey, I've never cared about that stuff. What I care about… is only what matters to me," Trevon declared, his feelings evident. When he sets his sights on a woman, he cares little for others' opinions. The air crackled between them.
Selina smiled. "Then, when the time is right, should we start dating for real?"
"Really?" Trevon was elated.
"Of course, honey. I've never lied to you about anything significant," Selina quipped, playfully hooking his chin. "But I think I like this stage of playing husband and wife. Who can predict the future? How about we give each other a bit more time?"
"Alright," Trevon agreed, willing to invest the time to win her over.
A phone rang—Selina's. The melody was familiar. It sounds like Angel's ringtone from last night, Trevon thought. Selina tiptoed away. "I've been playing all day, I'm tired. I'm going to take a shower, honey. You should rest early, too."
Trevon sighed. Women, oh women. He never thought he'd fall so willingly. But the ringtone… Selina, the top dark web hacker known as Charm, possessed abilities he didn't know about. Perhaps she had a bigger surprise in store for him.
