Chapter 92
Selina enjoyed a leisurely breakfast with Trevon, pretending last night's events were merely a dream. Trevon played along perfectly. Just as Selina was about to breathe a sigh of relief while dropping Trevon off at the Insight Group, she was adjusting his tie when Trevon, looking down with those soul-piercing eyes, murmured, "Honey, don't I get a good morning kiss as a reward?"
Selina's heart skipped a beat. Patting Trevon's tie with feigned annoyance, she quipped, "Expecting a reward for your mischief? Keep dreaming, hubby."
With a teasing smirk, Trevon replied in his low, alluring voice, "And what do I have to do to earn one?"
"Depends on your performance. Now off you go to work; don't be late."
"I am the boss. Even if I'm late, who's going to call me out on it?" Trevon pressed, reluctant to end their exchange, but Selina firmly nudged him out the door.
Aware that her blush had betrayed her reaction to their forced kiss the previous day, Trevon realized he needed to be patient. A good hunter always waits for the right moment to catch the prize. As soon as Trevon was gone, Selina hurried to her car, heading straight for Brilliance.
As she entered the company, she felt the shift in everyone's gaze. To everyone except Derrick and Christina, Selina was known not as Trevon's wife, but as the newcomer who had passed Madge's review on her first attempt—a groundbreaking achievement!
Ignoring the curious stares, Selina went straight to Derrick's desk; Christina's desk was empty. Derrick, having been informed by Trevon personally, handed her an access card. "This is the key card. Swipe this to get into the engineering department. There's enough machinery and materials there for you to fashion necklaces and bracelets. Anything more complex will require a specialized factory."
"That's plenty," Selina replied confidently. "Derrick, you know my design philosophy: the simpler, the better. It's all about aesthetics, not piling on materials—that's just dull."
Derrick, after a scrutinizing look, stood up, extending his hand. "Let me officially welcome you to Brilliance, Selina. I don't know how long you'll be with us, but as long as you're here, you're one of us. And I think no one doubts your talent now."
Derrick had accepted Selina's status as Trevon's wife but intended to treat her like any other designer. Selina smiled. "I hope we'll get along well, Derrick."
After a full day assembling necklaces and bracelets, Selina immediately called Lydia and Malcolm. Malcolm didn't answer, but Lydia did. Hearing the news, she exclaimed joyfully, "I'm going to call everyone to meet up at the Starlight Club right away. Selina, you remember the place, right?"
"How could I forget? I'm on my way."
The atmosphere at the Starlight Club was vastly different from Selina's first visit, which had been all about underground rock. Tonight, it was the violin. The elegant melodies added a touch of softness to the club's bold design. Of course, this was Trevon's club, and the performers were all notable figures. The Starlight Club even had one of the world's best pianists perform at its grand opening. In other words, Trevon spared no expense. "Selina, over here!"
Lydia had already secured a spot and was waiting. Selina walked over, smiling, and set down her bag. "Where's everyone else?"
"They're not here yet, which is perfect. Where's my secret gift? I don't want the others to get jealous when they see it." Lydia rubbed her hands together excitedly.
"Here you go. Let's see if you like it." Selina handed Lydia a box. When Lydia opened it, a stunning silver chain necklace with a skull design appeared. Lydia was ecstatic. "Selina, how does your brain even work? I've gotten tired of skull-designed necklaces, but the one you made looks so cool! Help me put it on; I need to see this in the mirror!"
"Okay."
After Selina helped her put on the necklace, Lydia checked herself in the mirror, tried various poses, and nodded in satisfaction. "Not bad, not bad at all! I absolutely love this necklace! Come on, Selina, let's take some selfies."
"Sure."
After taking photos, Lydia casually sent them to Malcolm. She knew he was busy and wouldn't look at his phone immediately, but when he did, she knew it would make him jealous.
Just as Selina turned her head, she saw two familiar figures. Seeing Selina, they both exclaimed, "It's you?!"
Selina felt a headache coming on. She thought, "What kind of matchup is this? One is Jennifer, thoroughly outdone by me on the violin. The other is Rence, Manuel's pretend girlfriend, also bested by me. And now, here they are, together, right in front of me?"
Jennifer lowered her voice, surprised that Rence knew Selina. "When did you get to know Selina?"
Rence was too embarrassed to mention the barbecue incident where Selina had single-handedly defeated a judo club team, so she gritted her teeth. "Jennifer, all you need to know is that she's an enemy of both Manuel and me. That's enough!"
Selina, ever languid, chimed in, "Looking for a fight? I'm always ready. How about this time I handicap myself to one hand and both feet? What do you say?"
Renee was furious, practically ready to attack Selina. Jennifer quickly restrained her. "Renee, calm down, don't fall for Selina's tricks! She may look frail, but she's tough. Plus, don't you have a date with Manuel tonight?"
That reminded Rence of her rendezvous with Manuel at the Starlight Club to watch Jennifer's performance. She managed to compose herself. "Selina, don't get cocky. The humiliation you gave Manuel and me, I will make you pay back sooner or later, with interest!"
Selina taunted, "Why wait? Let's settle it now. I'm offering you a one-handed fight, and you, a black belt in judo, seem to be too chicken? I'm really questioning who certified you. It would be laughably pathetic if word got out."
