Chapter 93
Selina, you've got just one opponent—handle it however you like. And if any backup comes along, don't worry. I've got your back. Just the two of us are enough," Lydia said casually, her legs crossed, hands resting on the back of the couch, swaying slightly as if she owned the place. She would have totally pulled off the mob boss vibe, if not for her extraordinary beauty that still captivated the men nearby, despite her seemingly cocky pose. Selina's own beauty was equally captivating. Should a brawl break out, it was clear whose side the crowd would take—the two stunning women.
"Let's get it on!"
"Fight! Fight! Fight!"
The crowd loved the spectacle, clapping and whistling. After all, who wouldn't relish a free show, especially when they weren't the ones cleaning up afterward?
Renee was in a difficult position. She felt countless eyes on her. On any other day, her black belt in judo would have given her confidence. Even if a few guys ganged up on her, unarmed, she was sure she could handle them. But this was Selina! A force of nature who had single-handedly demolished their entire judo team. Renee wasn't stupid; she knew better than to challenge someone so clearly superior. Only a fool would willingly face such a beating.
Jennifer, sensing the impending trouble, had already slipped away, leaving Renee to face the storm alone. They were friends, but not sisters—why should Jennifer suffer because Renee had bitten off more than she could chew? Their friendship felt flimsy in that moment.
Just as Renee scrambled for an excuse to leave, a voice cut through the tension: "What's going on here?" It was Manuel. Relieved, Renee exclaimed, "Manuel!"
Manuel had just arrived at the Starlight Club and was drawn in by the crowd. He wouldn't have approached had he not recognized Selina's voice. To his surprise, it was Renee and Jennifer who had provoked Selina.
Renee instantly transformed into a damsel in distress, hiding behind Manuel with tear-filled eyes. "Manuel, it's all because of Selina… She started trouble with me out of the blue, and I'm so scared!"
Selina barely suppressed a scoff. Is this fool really a black belt in judo? she thought. She's picked up a few tricks from Ashley but lacks the acting skills. Her sudden transformation is incredibly insincere. Manuel is another idiot. Even if he's looking for a girlfriend, he doesn't need this kind of trash. The thought of sharing blood with such an imbecile made Selina's skin crawl.
Manuel's brow furrowed slightly. Though he felt nothing for Renee, and their breakup was imminent, Selina's bullying felt like a targeted attack against him—sheer revenge! Renee's distress was a consequence of his past actions, something he couldn't ignore. Besides, he'd just received some news and had a burning question for Selina. Drawing a deep breath, Manuel said, "Selina, step outside with me!"
Raising an eyebrow, Selina taunted, "What? Want to fight? No need for such a hassle. With a weakling like you, I'd just need one kick to blow you apart."
"Is your head filled with fists and violence? No wonder you have such a backwoods vibe. If it were Ashley, she'd never act this way!"
He thought, What a woman! How could she possibly be taken seriously as the true heiress of the Harvey family? Ashley, the real gem of the Harvey family, never resorted to this kind of bullish arrogance, this desperate need to fight, or this aggressively pretentious manner!
The more Manuel thought about it, the more satisfied he felt with his past treatment of Selina—cold and disdainful, forcing her to leave the family. Compared to Ashley, Selina wasn't worth a single finger! Her continued presence would only deepen the betrayal she'd inflicted on the family.
"Freaking hell…" Lydia fumed, almost grabbing a beer bottle to hit Manuel.
But Selina stopped her. "Lydia, he's not worth your anger. It would only diminish your own value."
Selina's calm words quelled Lydia's anger. Lydia huffed coldly, "You're right. I shouldn't get mad; wouldn't want to cheapen myself." With that, she gave Manuel the finger.
"This feud is between Selina and me. I don't care who you are, stay out of it," Manuel said, barely concealing his disdain for Lydia. Of course, she's just like Selina, all edgy and rough. Where's the demure grace? Such a waste of a pretty face!
Lydia snapped back, unapologetically. "And what's it to you? I'll meddle if I want to. Annoyed? Bite me. Selina's issues are mine."
"You! Selina, after leaving the Harvey family and betraying your blood relatives, was it all just to mix with these country bumpkins? You've let their backwoods ways get under your skin!"
Manuel had never met such unreasonable women. Selina had changed so drastically; before, she was weak and submissive—a facade that had fooled everyone. Now, she was domineering and harming her kin at whim. What a revelation!
The next second, a glass of drink flew at Manuel's face. Stunned, Manuel felt the liquid trickle down his face. The room erupted.
"Encore! Encore!"
"Fight! Fight!"
"That girl's on fire!"
"Manuel, are you okay?" Renee, seeing Manuel's humiliation, grabbed a tissue to wipe his face, glaring at Selina: "Selina! You've gone too far!"
"Too far? Haven't you experienced 'too far,' loser?" Selina held the empty glass, her eyes brimming with cold fury. She smashed the glass on the floor. The shattering sound filled the room.
"You're a real man, fight me. Don't hold back. And quit flapping your lips. 'Country bumpkin'? Did a 'country bumpkin' eat up your family's fortune? If your ancestors were 'country bumpkins,' what does that make you? A 'country bumpkin's offspring?" The room burst into laughter at Selina's brazen words! Manuel's face flushed.
"Selina, don't forget that you're a Harvey too! Step outside with me!" Manuel moved to grab Selina, but she nimbly dodged and countered with a swift kick.
