Never Truly Over Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“Ms. Lawson, this guy is being rude!” Melissa rushed to Quinn the moment she saw her, complaining with a look of injustice.
“You’re such a piece of work! I’m offering you a chance to drink with me because I actually think you’re worth it. So why don’t you come over here?” the guy shouted, sprawled on the couch with a bottle of whiskey in hand, his breath reeking of alcohol.
Seeing this, Quinn quickly pulled Melissa behind her, giving her a reassuring pat on the shoulder before turning to the intoxicated man. “Sir, you’ve had too much to drink. Why don’t you lie down and rest instead of drinking more?”
“Too much? I’m not even drunk! Come here and lie down with me!” The man suddenly sat up, reaching for Quinn’s wrist.
Quinn felt a wave of nausea as he grabbed her hand. She tugged at her wrist, trying to break free, and warned him, “Sir, please let go of me.”
“Not a chance! What are you going to do about it?” The man narrowed his eyes at her, his tone filled with arrogance.
Realizing the situation had worsened, Melissa said, “Ms. Lawson, I’ll go get security right away!”
“Wait, you need to help me—” Quinn called out, but, whether out of fear or something else, Melissa dashed away, leaving her alone.
The drunken man, noticing Melissa’s escape, pointed at Quinn. “One ran off, but you’re still here. Let’s have some fun!”
With that, he lunged toward her.
Quinn instinctively stepped back in a panic to avoid him. However, she lost her balance. Her foot, clad in a high heel, slipped. She couldn’t steady herself and fell backward. Shoot.
She let out a silent scream, bracing herself for the impact.
But instead of hitting the floor, she found herself leaning against a warm wall.
Feeling confused, she tried to look behind her, only to find the drunken man leaning toward her, his breath foul.
Just as she felt there was no escape and was about to be kissed, a strong hand shot out from behind her, delivering a sharp slap to the man’s forehead. The force sent him staggering back, crashing into the nearby sofa.
Chapter 10
“Who dared to hit me?” the man yelled, feeling dizzy as he tried to stand straight and catch a glimpse of his assailant. However, his legs wobbled, causing him to fall straight back down.
After the shock wore off, Quinn turned to look at the man standing behind her, only to find him also looking at her. Their eyes met, and she suddenly felt her heart racing.
“Mr. Sutton—” The words barely escaped her before he interrupted. “You refused to be my butler just to deal with lowlifes like this?”
“I…” Quinn opened her mouth to say something but realized she wasn’t ready to face him.
“Let’s go.” He reached out, took her hands, and gently pulled her away.
At the door, Melissa finally returned with security, only to stop in her tracks at the sight of the two of them about to leave. Her expression shifted to one of shock. “Ms. Lawson, Mr. Sutton…”
Changes Made:
- Corrected punctuation: Added commas, periods, and question marks where needed. Removed unnecessary commas.
- Improved sentence structure: Combined short, choppy sentences for better flow.
- Replaced "runk" with "reeking of alcohol": Clarified the description of the man's breath.
- Added word "a" before "high heel": Corrected grammatical error.
- Improved word choice: Used stronger verbs and more precise descriptions (e.g., "foul" instead of "bad").
- Clarified pronoun references: Made it clear who was doing what.
- Removed extra space before Chapter 10 on the second occurrence: Made the formatting consistent.
- Corrected minor typos: (e.g., "al glimpse" to "a glimpse").
- Minor stylistic edits: For better readability and flow. (e.g., changing "Wait, you need to help me-" to "Wait, you need to help me—")
- Replaced the italicized "Shoot" with a period, as it is a silent internal thought rather than a shout. Leaving it italicized would imply a vocalization.
The revised text is more polished and easier to read.
