Chapter 100
Zayne dosed Quinn’s door and slid into the driver’s seat. As he started the car, Quinn sat ahead, her thoughts still on Cameron.
“Ms. Lawson?” Zayne called softly, noticing she was lost in thought.
“Huh?” Quinn snapped back to reality, looking at him with confusion.
Zayne sighed, unbuckled his seatbelt, and leaned toward her. “Are you okay?” Quinn tensed at his sudden closeness.
Zayne reached across her to grab her seatbelt, clicking it into place. “Why are you so afraid of me? I told you, I don’t bite,” he joked, noticing her nervousness.
Quinn blushed, realizing she had overreacted. Then, Zayne asked before setting off, “Where to?”
“Sycamore Park Estates,” Quinn replied quietly.
Zayne raised an eyebrow at the mention of the address but said nothing as he drove off. The car fell into an awkward silence as they were unfamiliar with each other, especially since Quinn was not the chatty type. Picking up on this, Zayne turned on the source—the soothing melody filled the silence and eased some of the tension.
They had been driving for a while when Quinn suddenly felt a wave of nausea rising. She instinctively covered her mouth, trying to suppress it.
Zayne noticed her discomfort and slowed down. “Are you okay?”
Quinn gestured frantically. “Please stop the car. I feel nauseous and don’t want to dirty your car.”
Without hesitation, Zayne pulled over to the side of the road and helped her out of the car. She rushed to the curb and threw up while Zayne fetched water and tissues from the car. “Feeling better?”
“Take you to the hospital,” Zayne offered, handing her the water and tissues.
“I’m fine, really. There’s no need to go to the hospital. It’s too much trouble,” she said, not wanting to be a burden. Zayne had already rescued her once, and she did not want to owe him.
“Remember you were really sick last time, too. Are you sure it’s nothing serious? I know a doctor at the hospital—he could see you right away. It won’t take long,” Zayne persisted, his worry evident.
His words made Quinn realize this was not her first nausea spell. Sometimes, it was even accompanied by dizziness. She could not help but worry if she was seriously ill. After seeing her pallor, Zayne did not wait for an answer. He helped her back into the car and drove straight to the hospital.
An hour later, Quinn stared at her test results, her face a mix of shock and joy.
“You’re four and a half weeks pregnant. Everything looks normal; just make sure to rest and maintain good nutrition,” the doctor advised before a nurse escorted her out. “Should I congratulate you?” Zayne asked with a grin, noticing Quinn’s overwhelmed expression.
