Never Truly Over Chapter 15

Chapter 15

“Ms. Lawson, you can’t deny it anymore! Look, I’ve caught you in the act!” Melissa teased, holding up the diamond earring with a mischievous grin.

Quinn’s mind raced. She tried to figure out what was going on. How had her earring ended up on Cameron’s bedside table? Had she dropped it at the club lounge last night? Was Cameron aware of their encounter? But wait, if he knew, why hadn’t he mentioned it? Or perhaps, like Quinn, Cameron understood what had happened but deliberately avoided the topic to sidestep any complications.

“Ms. Lawson?” Melissa waved her hand in front of Quinn’s face, pulling her from her thoughts. “What are you thinking about?”

Quinn snapped back to reality and took the earring from Melissa, forcing an awkward smile. “Don’t let your imagination run wild. I must have dropped it sometime, and Mr. Sutton probably picked it up but hasn’t had a chance to return it yet.”

“Is that so?” Melissa didn’t believe her. “Either way, don’t worry, Ms. Lawson. I won’t tell anyone about you and Mr. Sutton. I came here specifically to keep it a secret.”

Quinn couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. This wasn’t help; this was just making things more difficult for her.

By the time Cameron returned, it was late. Quinn was lying in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. When she heard the key in the lock, she quickly jumped out of bed and went to the door.

As Cameron stepped inside, he spotted Quinn standing in her robe, her face slightly dazed.

“Oh, you’re still awake,” he said, scanning her with a curious gaze.

Quinn nodded. Seeing him about to change his shoes, she quickly crouched down and grabbed a pair of soft leather slippers from the rack, placing them at his feet.

Cameron looked down at the top of her head, suddenly finding her petite frame oddly adorable, almost like a toy.

“Are you waiting for me?” he asked as he put on the slippers.

Quinn lifted her gaze, her large, expressive eyes gleaming softly under the light, bright and clear.

“Get up. You don’t need to do this anymore,” he said, turning toward the living room.

Quinn stood and followed him, watching as he removed his coat. She hurried over to help.

Noticing something was off, Cameron turned and asked, “Is there something you want to say?”

Caught off guard, Quinn felt a wave of nervousness. She glanced around, then feigned nonchalance. “Um… no, not really… I was just wondering if Mr. Campbell came back with you?”

“He went to a bar.” Cameron sank into the couch, looking exhausted, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

Quinn hung up his coat, went to the dining room, poured a glass of water, and handed it to him. Cameron took the glass and glanced at her. Quinn was anxious and fidgeted, absentmindedly brushing her dark hair off her shoulders.

Her casual gesture seemed natural enough, but perhaps due to her wearing a robe or the relaxed aura she exuded after getting up from bed, the simple movement came across as alluring.

Alluring?

Cameron had never associated that phrase with Quinn before, yet today, for some reason, it struck him. He must be more tired than he realized.
