Never Truly Over Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Melissa winked. “Yep, I swapped shifts for this, and I came here all by myself.”
“You’re cleaning the suite by yourself?” Quinn asked, confused.
With a bright smile, Melissa playfully nudged Quinn’s arm. “Well, you’re here to help me, right?”
Quinn was speechless. What was with this girl?
Melissa, without elaborating, grabbed a cleaning cloth and headed straight for the master bedroom, ready to work. Quinn had no choice but to join her.
“Ms. Lawson, what’s Mr. Sutton like? He seems pretty serious. Is he like that in private, too?” Melissa asked while wiping a table.
“Mm,” Quinn replied absentmindedly, her mind drifting to his image in bed. She shook her head, scolding herself for her silly thoughts. It wasn’t her fault; the only time she’d truly seen Cameron privately was in bed.
“Isn’t it terrifying to work with someone like him?” Melissa asked, looking at her with an inquisitive expression.
“Mm.” It was indeed terrifying. Who knew what he might do next?
“But I think he seems really nice to you! He even stepped in to deal with that drunken customer this morning, right?” Melissa’s heart fluttered. After all, a hero saving a damsel in distress was rare, especially when the hero was so attractive, cool, and rich.
“Really?” Quinn was incredulous. How could he possibly be nice to her?
“Yeah! I also heard Rebecca wanted your job and was rejected by Mr. Sutton. She was so upset she cried in the office. That shows how much Mr. Sutton likes you,” Melissa said, leaning closer with a conspiratorial grin. “Ms. Lawson, are you and Mr. Sutton…?”
Quinn quickly realized where Melissa was going and said, “Stop! Don’t overthink it. There’s nothing going on between Mr. Sutton and me.”
“Then what about this morning when he held your hand?” Melissa delivered the fatal blow.
Quinn was speechless, her mind racing. Narrowing her eyes, she looked at Melissa. “So that’s why you’re so eager to clean the presidential suite today. It’s not about cleaning; you just wanted gossip!”
“Ms. Lawson, don’t be mad. I’m just curious. After all, if you become a wealthy socialite, I’d get to enjoy some of that glory too, wouldn’t I?” Melissa teased, sticking out her tongue.
“Just wait until I figure out how to deal with you.” Quinn laughed in frustration, tossing her cleaning cloth aside and moving to tickle Melissa.
Quickly dodging to the side, Melissa ducked behind the bedside table. Leaning over, she spotted a diamond earring.
“Hey… this earring looks familiar!” She paused, picking it up and examining it closely.
“What?” Quinn asked, looking at what Melissa was pointing at.
“Isn’t this the birthday gift Simon gave you, Ms. Lawson?” Melissa exclaimed, holding the earring up to Quinn’s ear.
Quinn, unaware she’d lost an earring, instinctively touched her left ear and found it empty. The other diamond earring was still in her right ear.
Chapter 15
Several changes were made: corrected sentence fragments, improved word choice, tightened phrasing, and standardized punctuation. I also corrected a minor error ("Chopper 14" was likely a typo).
