Never Truly Over Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Quinn had called with the intention of confronting Cameron about the photos, but his cold tone made her initial confidence waver. She took a deep breath, reminding herself that she was not in the wrong.
“I—I need to ask you something,” she said, trying to muster her courage.
“Go ahead.”
“W—Why did you take those pictures of me and post them online? Do you know that because of this, I’ve been…”
“Recognized?” he interrupted, sounding slightly surprised.
“Yes, by my coworkers,” Quinn admitted, her voice tinged with hurt.
“Have they been giving you trouble?” he asked, seeming more concerned about this than anything else.
“Not yet, but there are rumors… Mr. Sutton, can you please tell me why you took those photos and posted them online?” Quinn pleaded, hoping for some kind of explanation.
Before Cameron could answer, Harry’s voice cut in. “Mr. Sutton, we’ve arrived at the office.”
Cameron glanced out the window and replied, “I’ll tell you later.”
Before Quinn could respond, he abruptly hung up, leaving her staring at the phone in a daze. She wondered when exactly “later” meant. Feeling let down by the lack of answers, Quinn decided to make the most of her time off, since Cameron was out of Xenvale and had given her a few days’ leave.
She changed into something more comfortable and planned to rest at home for several days.
Quinn didn’t have many friends in Xenvale, so on her days off, she mostly stayed in her small apartment, browsing the internet or video chatting with her younger brother, Simon Lawson, who lived in Casadonia.
She and Simon were not orphans; their parents were still alive. However, their father, James Lawson, had been a gambling addict who squandered the family’s wealth when they were young. Their mother, Luna Sinclair, eventually lost all hope in the family’s future. She met a wealthy man, left James with a sum of money, and divorced him.
Quinn and Simon hoped for a better life after Luna’s marriage. Unfortunately, their stepfather, David Jakeman, made it clear that they were not part of his plans. He restricted Luna’s contact with them. James, having squandered the last of the money Luna left him, was drowning in gambling debts and constantly on the run. He couldn’t care for them, leaving Quinn and Simon essentially on their own. As a result, the siblings felt orphaned despite having living parents.
While Luna could no longer provide maternal love, she still offered some financial support for their education. Sadly, things soured when Simon was diagnosed with kidney disease and needed a transplant. During that time, Quinn visited Luna several times to beg for help. Yet, Luna’s support ended abruptly because David refused to allow her to help. Later, Quinn visited their house to plead for assistance, but they refused to open the door, and all financial support ceased. These misfortunes led Quinn down a different path, ultimately leading to her first significant relationship with Cameron.
Back in her apartment, Quinn showered, changed into comfortable loungewear, and sat cross-legged on the rug. She opened her laptop to message Simon, but given the time difference, he was likely asleep, as there was no reply.
Left with nothing else to do, she watched videos to pass the time. Halfway through, her phone rang, displaying a completely unfamiliar number from Yatran. Her heart skipped a beat; she thought it might be Cameron calling back.
