Never Truly Over Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Cameron scoffed, his voice dripping with disdain. “What consequences? He’s just after the contents of Grandpa’s safe-deposit box.”
He turned to Theodore, issuing a stern command. “From now on, Mr. Kenneth is not allowed in the mansion without my or Mrs. Sutton’s explicit permission. Understood?”
Theodore nodded obediently. “Yes, sir.”
“That’s all. You can go now. Harry, let’s head to the office,” Cameron said, already striding toward the door.
Theodore quickly called out, “Mr. Sutton, aren’t you going to see Mrs. Sutton before you go?”
Cameron paused for a moment. He glanced back and replied, “No. Give her my regards and tell her I have urgent business to attend to.”
Theodore could not hide the disappointment in his voice. “I’m afraid Mrs. Sutton will be quite upset.”
“Will she?” Cameron’s eyes turned cold as he continued walking away.
Theodore watched him leave with a heavy sigh. Once Cameron was gone, he made his way to a bedroom on the west side of the mansion.
Inside, he found Meredith Pearson, an elegant woman in a white dress, tending to a potted plant by the window. A maid stood nearby, holding some pruning tools.
“Mrs. Sutton,” Theodore announced softly.
Without turning, Meredith continued watering the plant. Her voice was as calm as a still lake when she asked, “He’s gone, isn’t he?”
“Yes, Mrs. Sutton. He asked me to give you his regards and said he had to leave to handle some urgent matters,” Theodore answered respectfully, bowing slightly.
Meredith let out a bitter laugh, handing the watering can to the maid. “Urgent matters… Sure. That boy has never considered me his mother.” Her voice hardened. “He’s just like his late father—selfish and heartless.”
Theodore tried to smooth things over. “Mrs. Sutton, I’m sure you misunderstand. He truly did have pressing business. He didn’t even wait for Mr. Sutton Senior to wake up before leaving.”
However, Meredith had already tuned him out. “That’s enough, Theodore. You don’t need to make excuses for him. I know him better than anyone. Now, please leave me be. I don’t wish to be disturbed.”
Theodore nodded and quietly retreated. He knew all too well that the decades of estrangement between mother and son could not be mended with a few words from an outsider.
Chapter 31 (Continued)
As Cameron’s car sped toward the office, a tense silence filled the air. Harry could sense Cameron’s foul mood and kept quiet in the passenger seat, not daring to disturb him.
Suddenly, Harry’s phone rang. Glancing at the screen, he blurted out in surprise, “Ms. Lawson?” He wondered why she was calling.
At the mention of Quinn (presumably), Cameron’s eyes flickered with interest, though his expression remained blank.
Harry promptly answered the call. “Hello, Ms. Lawson… Oh, you’re looking for Mr. Sutton? He’s here. Just a moment, please.” He then turned to Cameron, offering him the phone with an eager smile. “Mr. Sutton, it’s Ms. Lawson. She wants to speak to you.”
Cameron shot Harry an icy stare that made him shiver, but he took the phone nonetheless. “What is it?” Cameron’s deep voice was devoid of emotion as he spoke into the receiver.
Changes Made:
- Corrected punctuation (periods, commas, dashes).
- Improved sentence structure for clarity.
- Added a presumed name "Quinn" in parentheses for better context. The original text lacked this crucial information.
- Removed unnecessary word repetitions.
- Added a more natural flow between paragraphs.
- Split the original text into two chapters for improved readability. The initial text seemed to cover two distinct scenes.
- Corrected "safe deposit" to "safe-deposit box."
The improvements aim to make the text more polished and easily readable while maintaining the original storyline and tone.
