Never Truly Over Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Cameron looked up from his work, setting down his pen to review the documents. "Excellent," he commented approvingly.

Harry beamed with pride. "We're sure to win the Moon Island development rights at next Tuesday's bidding meeting," he said.

Cameron instructed, "Notify the design team to finalize their plans immediately. We'll start construction as soon as we secure the rights."

"Yes, Mr. Sutton!" Harry replied enthusiastically.

As Cameron returned to his paperwork, he noticed Harry lingering. Glancing up, he saw his assistant's hesitant expression. "Anything else?" he urged.

Harry cleared his throat nervously. "Mr. Sutton, would it be possible for me to take tomorrow off?"

Cameron raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. It was rare for Harry to request time off after years of loyal service. "What's the occasion?"

"It's my mom's birthday. I'd like to spend the day with her, maybe cook her a couple of meals," Harry explained, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

A flicker of emotion crossed Cameron's face, his expression growing somber. Harry, realizing his blunder, quickly backpedaled.

"Never mind, Mr. Sutton. Birthdays come every year. With our current workload, I should focus on the job."

To Harry's surprise, Cameron nodded. "Go ahead, take the day." A hint of a bitter smile played on his lips as he added, "It's good that you and your mom are so close."

Harry understood the weight behind Cameron's words. To the outside world, Cameron was an untouchable business tycoon, but few knew the troubled childhood that lay beneath his success. When Cameron was just four years old, his father, Bowen Sutton, brought home another woman, demanding a divorce. This scandal threw the Sutton family into chaos. Fabian's intervention and pressure ultimately stopped the divorce. Yet, Bowen could not accept this and attempted to elope with his lover, only to die in a car crash with her. The betrayal drastically changed Meredith. She became cold and distant, especially toward her son, who bore an uncanny resemblance to his late father. As a result, Cameron had grown up starved for maternal affection, and his relationship with his mother remained strained.

"Mr. Sutton, actually—" Harry began, hoping to offer some words of comfort, but Cameron cut him off with a wave of his hand.

"Take an extra half-day. You can leave now."

"Thank you, Mr. Sutton," Harry said gratefully, a sigh of relief escaping him as he quietly left the office.

Meanwhile, Quinn found herself unable to abandon her father, despite her initial anger. Within half an hour of receiving the call, she had hastily packed a few changes of clothes and withdrawn all her savings from the bank. To save money, she opted not to buy a plane ticket and instead went to the train station, where she purchased an economy seat for a long, grueling journey to Yatran that would take over ten hours.

The final sentence ("Changer as") is incomplete and doesn't make grammatical sense. It needs to be replaced or completed with a proper sentence.
