Chapter 75

“I don’t think he’ll have time,” Quinn said hesitantly. After all, Cameron was such a busy person, and there were probably many things to handle at work. How could he have time to come back for lunch?

Hilda said persuasively, “Even if Mr. Sutton doesn’t have time to come back for lunch, he’ll probably be very happy to get a call from you.”

“Really?” Quinn thought for a moment and picked up her phone to call Cameron. The phone rang for a long time before he answered. Cameron’s deep voice came over the phone. “What is it?”

“Um, I wanted to ask if you’re coming home for lunch. Hilda and I cooked the fish that you like,” Quinn said tentatively.

There was silence on the other end of the phone. Quinn wondered if the call had been too sudden and had disturbed him, so she said quickly, “It’s okay if you don’t have time. We’ll eat out.”

“Half an hour,” Cameron said.

“Huh?” Quinn was startled. She said quickly, “Oh, okay, I’ll wait for you.”

She dared not take up any more of his time, so she hung up quickly. Her heart was thumping.

“Well—Did Mr. Sutton agree to come home to eat?” Hilda laughed when she saw that Quinn was blushing and looking pleased.

Quinn nodded. “He’ll be home in half an hour.”

“Alright, I’ll keep the food warm.” Hilda went to the kitchen, smiling widely. She suddenly realized that she was still in her pajamas. She hurried upstairs to change and tidy her hair.

When Cameron returned, he saw Quinn sitting at the fully laden table, waiting for him to come and eat. She was wearing a sapphire blue dress. Harry was following him, and he sniffed exaggeratedly. “It smells so good! No wonder Mr. Sutton postponed such an important lunch meeting; I knew there must be something good to eat at home.”

“You’re back, Mr. Sutton.” Hilda smiled as she took Cameron’s coat and hung it up.

Quinn got up quickly. Her bright eyes showed a flash of guilt as she looked at Cameron. “Did you postpone an important lunch meeting because…?”

Cameron walked over to the dining table and sat down. He glanced at the sumptuous feast on the dining table and said impassively, “Don’t listen to his nonsense.”

“Wow, Ms. Lawson! Did you make all of this?” Harry seemed perfectly at home as he found a seat and reached for a piece of beef to put in his mouth. He nodded vigorously. “It tastes good!”

“You don’t have to call me Ms. Lawson, just call me Quinn. I only made the fish and the chicken. Hilda made the rest.” Quinn did not dare take all the credit for cooking lunch.

“Don’t do this in the future,” Cameron said curtly. Compared to Harry’s lavish praise, Cameron’s reaction seemed unusually cold. He picked up his cutlery and began to eat. Quinn couldn’t help feeling disappointed at his attitude, and the light in her eyes grew dim.

Harry was sharp-eyed and noticed, so he said immediately, “That’s right, Quinn! Cooking is so dangerous. You’d better not do it often. If you got cut by a cleaver or got splashed with hot oil, Mr. Sutton’s heart will ache. Right, Mr. Sutton?”

Cameron glared at him and shot him a look. Harry was cowed by the look in his eyes, so he hunched his shoulders and vowed not to meddle.

Quinn stole a look at Cameron and saw that he had taken a piece of fish to try. The moment he tasted it, the tension in his face relaxed slightly. It seemed that he didn’t hate the taste of it.

Quinn breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that Harry was probably right.
