Chapter 96

The Zeller family found themselves in a dilemma similar to the Jakemans. Ever since Imperial Group began targeting all of Jakeman Realty’s projects, many of their joint developments ran into various issues. The media was hounding them, and their plans to go public had been indefinitely postponed.

At the Zeller residence, Caleb was summoned upstairs to the study by his father, Omar Zeller, for a harsh scolding. Omar had made up his mind to cut his losses. Omar shouted, “I don’t care how you handle this, but if you can’t fix it, your engagement to the Jakeman girl is off. The Jakemans are the ones who offended the Suttons, and we’re just caught in the crossfire. If we cancel your engagement, the Suttons will leave us alone.”

Though the Jakemans had been valuable business partners, they had lost all worth now that the Suttons were after them. Omar feared the Jakeman empire might soon vanish from Tatran altogether, and he was not about to risk his own company.

“Dad, how can you say that? Zoe and I are already engaged. We can’t just call it off,” Caleb protested, displeased with Omar’s decision. He believed the Suttons’ actions against the Jakemans were all part of Quinn’s schemes. She was trying to sabotage his engagement to Zoe out of sheer spite.

Omar’s anger flared at the mention of Zoe. “So what if you’re engaged? I had no idea Zoe was so foolish as to offend the Suttons for no reason. If you won’t break it off with her, then do you want to watch her family drag us down with them?”

He could not believe he had not seen how foolish the girl was when they first started dating. Such a daughter-in-law would only bring trouble to the Zeller family. Hence, it was better to cut ties.

“Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll fix the mess Zoe created. Please don’t mention canceling the wedding again,” Caleb replied firmly. Then, he left the study, ignoring his fuming father. Omar watched Caleb’s retreating figure; his weathered face was etched with cunning calculation.

After the chaos of the Jakeman Estate engagement party, Quinn had finally calmed down and tried to put everything behind her. Later on, Melody called to invite her out for dinner, and Quinn jumped at the chance. She had spent the entire day cooped up at home and needed a breather.

When Quinn arrived at the meeting place, she was surprised to find it was a five-star hotel’s Crestian restaurant. She saw no sign of Melody. The door opened behind her as she pulled out her phone to call Melody. Caleb appeared, his tall frame towering over her. “What are you doing here?” Quinn asked, quickly connecting the dots. “Did you ask Melody to invite me?” Even after following the waiter to a private room…
