Chapter 95
“Shut up! You ungrateful beat, do you have any idea what’s at stake here?” David silenced Zoe, turning to Lona. He begged, “Luna, honey, we’ve been married for so long. You can’t just stand by and watch us fail, can you? Please, help me out. Talk to Quinn and ask her to persuade the Suttons to let us use the hook this time. I promise I’ll never mention it again, okay?”
Luma raised her chin, looking proud. “David, do you really think I’m afraid of a divorce at this point? Quinn is dating Zayne now. If she ends up marrying into the Sutton family, I’ll be his mother-in-law. There’ll be nothing I can’t get.”
Zoe scoffed. “Marry into the Sutton family? Keep dreaming. Do you have any idea who the Suttons are? They’d never let some nobody without status or position into their family.”
Luna felt a tinge of uncertainty at Zoe’s words. Having moved in wealthy circles for so long, she understood the importance of social standing. Zoe had a point. However, she wasn’t about to back down. After years of being pushed around, Luna had finally found a way to assert herself in this family. She wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away. Regaining her arrogant expression, she said, “Right now, the real concern is whether Quinn can marry into the Sutton family. It’s the fact that you’ve offended Quinn, and now the Suttons won’t let the Jakemans off the hook.”
David had no way to deal with the Suttons, and he couldn’t even get a meeting with Zayne. Hence, he pinned his last hope on Luna. He pleaded, “Luna, think this through. Are you really not going to help us out of this mess? If the Jakemans family goes down, it won’t do you any good either.”
Luma seized the chance to say, “If you want me to talk to Quinn on your behalf, I can. But I have conditions. I don’t want to meddle in your company affairs—that’s beyond me. However, from now on, I want full control over all household matters. Can you agree to that?”
David immediately protested. “You shameless woman, keep dreaming! I’ll never agree to this!”
“Shut up,” Donid barked. He knew he was in no position to refuse. Turning to Luna with a pleading look, he said, “Luna, I agree. From now on, you’ll have the final say in all household matters. We’ll do whatever you say.”
Luma wasted no time exercising her new authority. “Alright then, first things first. Get rid of that little mistress you’ve been keeping on the side.”
David’s face turned red with embarrassment. “What? I don’t have a mistress…”
Luna laughed coldly. “Don’t take me for a fool. Remember how good you were to me when we first got married? Even when Zoe rejected me, you refused to divorce me. But in the past couple of years, you’ve been finding fault with me, locked me out to the guesthouse, and now you want a divorce. It’s clear that you’ve got someone else.”
David was at a loss for words. Meanwhile, Zoe looked at David in disbelief and gasped, “Dad, is what she’s saying true? Do you really have another woman?”
“N-No. It was just a…” David mumbled unconvincingly.
Zoe stared at him, her face full of disappointment. “I thought you wanted to divorce this woman because you’d come to your senses and wanted to remarry Mom. I never imagined you were just trading one woman for another. How could you do this?”
Luna seized the opportunity to clear her name. “Now you see what kind of man your dad is? Let me tell you, if it hadn’t been me, it would have been some other woman. His divorce from your mom had nothing to do with me. You’ve been hating the wrong person all along.”
However, Zoe wasn’t buying it. She glared at them both, her eyes blazing with anger. “You’re both horrible people!”
