Chapter 61
Noelle’s eyes turned pitch black as if she were in devout prayer.
Xenia took a step back. “Why are you staring at me like that, Noelle? It’s not like I’m the one who dropped all your stationery on the ground.”
Estepped over and asked, “What’s wrong, Noelle?”
Noelle used all her strength to suppress her anger. “The stationery is all broken.”
He took a look at the scattered stationery, and his expression shifted. “How did this happen? For now, just head inside, Noelle. I’ll buy new ones for you right away.”
Noelle began to regret staying at the Liddell residence. She realized she had made a colossal mistake. She immediately thought about calling Cedric instead, as she did not trust Frank.
Xenia then suggested, “How about I give Noelle my stationery instead, Frank? I’ll wait this time. I’ll go and buy new ones for you to bring me the new ones.”
Frank then turned to Noelle and continued, “You can trust me, Noelle. Just head inside for now and wait for me. You’ll be late otherwise.”
Noelle gave Frank one last look before heading inside the school and waiting at the exam hall. Time was running out because of the delay caused by the heavy rain and traffic. She couldn’t help but feel anxious about all of this.
Xenia passed by Noelle with her umbrella and feigned concern. “I hope that Frank makes it back before the exam starts.”
Noelle held her own large black umbrella and just stared straight ahead, ignoring Xenia’s comments.
Embarrassed by the lack of response, Xenia stomped her foot and walked away. She was actually extremely displeased, as she had planned for Noelle to realize that all the stationery was broken when the exam had already begun. It was safe to say that Noelle had gotten lucky.
The rain began to pour even harder as Noelle called Cedric. Cedric picked up instantly and asked, “What’s wrong, Noelle? You should already be in the classroom by now!”
“All of my stationery was sabotaged. I’m now waiting for Frank to bring me new ones, but he still hasn’t returned yet.”
Cedric immediately sat up straight. “Wait for me in your seat.”
Noelle continued to stand outside after the phone call ended until the teacher reminded her that it was time to head inside the classroom. She trusted Cedric.
Noelle went to the classroom to look for her seat, then sat and waited until the bell rang. Just then, Brace, the principal, hurried into the classroom with some stationery in hand. He handed them to the invigilator for a quick check before handing them to Noelle. She wondered why the principal himself was delivering the stationery. However, there was no time to think about such matters as the exam was about to start. Time passed by from seconds to minutes to hours.
After the exam, Noelle could finally let out a breath of relief. She stepped out of the exam hall and looked up at the sky in a great mood.
When Noelle arrived at the school gate, Frank finally came over to her. “How was the exam, Noelle? The rain got heavier just now, and Aiden accidentally took a wrong turn. It took me a long time to buy some new stationery. By the time I got back, it was already too late.”
His body was soaked from head to toe, and his face was filled with guilt. Noelle remained calm, as she had already expected this to happen. She was not even angry at him at all. If anything, she had already gotten used to being disappointed by her older brother. Now that she no longer cared about it, she would no longer feel hurt by their actions.
Frank was incredibly overwhelmed by Noelle’s calm demeanor. “What’s wrong, Noelle? Say something! You can yell at me, too, if you want!”
Noelle took a step back and put some distance between her and Frank.
Frank stammered, "I… I am deeply, deeply sorry… and the… the rain…" saying, “You’re late, and did you manage to bring the stationery on time? Oh no! Noelle’s exam must have been disastrous without any…”
He was extremely happy when he caught sight of Noelle’s emotionless expression. Overwhelmed with guilt, he continued, “Truly, Noelle, this is all my fault. If you fail this exam, I’ll pay for you to study for another year to retake it!”
Noelle just nodded and replied, “It’s fine, Frank. Let’s just leave it at that.”
Frank became more broken in spirit as he wondered what Noelle meant. He would rather Noelle lose her temper and yell at him instead of being so nonchalant and indifferent.
