Chapter 68
Lucas no longer needed to hold himself back now that he was no longer smitten with Noelle. He demanded, “Noelle, you should apologize to Xenia now!”
Noelle raised an eyebrow and explained, “This is my house; she moved in here without my permission. I have every right to do what I want.”
Lucas retorted, “There’s a good reason for that! And so what if Xenia stayed in your room for just a few days? It’s not like you’ll get hurt or anything.”
Noelle replied, “Then why didn’t you let Xenia stay on the team, Lucas? Is it because she sucks at the game? Afraid that she’ll drag you down? Oh, how can you be so petty, Lucas? Don’t you know that Xenia’s grades dropped because she worked hard to train for the competition? How could you just place her in the role of a mere substitute? We’re a team, aren’t we? Xenia may be bad at the game, but she’s trying her best, no? So what if you lose? It’s not like you’ll get hurt or anything.”
She spoke so fast and to the point that Lucas was rendered speechless.
Noelle sneered, wondering if Lucas was already at his limit. When he had used the same words to put-down her, he had always acted as if he were doing the right thing. Now that she had used his own words against him, he seemed unable to handle it.
Lucas’s face turned red with anger as he retorted, “You’re hopeless, Noelle! If you don’t apologize to Xenia right now, I’ll no longer consider you my sister!”
Noelle laughed out loud. “That’s perfect. Saved me the trouble.”
“Yeah, you said that yourself, Noelle! Don’t you regret it!” With that, he stormed off from the hallway.
Xenia stood there by herself, looking at Noelle with teary eyes. “Noelle…”
“You should get lost too!” replied Noelle before shutting her door.
Xenia was furious. She wondered if Noelle had truly gone crazy. But since Noelle had agreed to sever ties with Lucas, it had also made things easier for Xenia.
After shutting the door behind her, Noelle returned to her computer. She logged back into the game and was once again greeted by Lucas’s message. He even included a draft of the contract to join his team; it was apparent that he was in a hurry.
Noelle recalled Lucas’s arrogant attitude moments earlier and replied, “I’ll take a look at the contract first.”
Lucas replied, “No problem. Take your time. If you have any other requirements, just let me know, and we can discuss them.”
Noelle could not help but laugh as she read Lucas’s oddly polite tone. In his previous life, Lucas had never treated her with such a respectful attitude, even though she had been training tirelessly and competing for his team. She felt that people like him were truly the scum of the earth.
The following day, Noelle slept soundly until she woke up naturally. When she headed downstairs for lunch, Frank had just returned home.
Lucas immediately came over to Frank and complained, “Listen, Frank, Noelle’s being completely out of line!”
Frank sneaked a glance at Noelle and saw her usual nonchalant expression. He then explained, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let Xenia stay in Noelle’s room. It’s only normal that she would be upset.”
Lucas was shocked. “What are you talking about, Frank? Xenia stayed in Noelle’s room for just two days! What’s the big deal about just two days? Xenia’s father saved her life once!” Frank felt as if he was being stabbed in the heart as he listened to the familiar yet hurtful words. He found himself between a rock and a hard place. If he were to side with Noelle, Xenia would be hurt. He had no idea what to do at the moment.
Xenia quietly spoke, “Frank, I’ve thought long and hard about it and decided that it’s best if I move away.”
Lucas hastily stopped her. “What are you talking about, Xenia? This is all Noelle’s fault. It has nothing to do with you!”
Goods chimed in, “Mr. Frank, please help persuade Ms. Quigley to abandon the thought of moving away; she hasn’t done anything wrong!”
Frank remained silent throughout the entire conversation.
Noelle felt a headache from all the noise surrounding her; she then flipped the dining table, splattering all the food onto Xenia and Lucas. The entire dining room fell silent.
Chapter 69
After she flipped over the dining table, Noelle casually wiped her hands as if nothing had happened.
Lucas was shocked by her sudden outburst. He questioned, “Have you lost your mind, Noelle?” She had never once acted so erratically, going so far as to burn Xenia’s belongings with a lighter. It was unlike Noelle at all.
Noelle kicked a nearby chair and impatiently replied, “You’re all too noisy! If you don’t want to sit and eat, don’t bother.”
