Chapter 67

Her eyes carrying nothing but indifference, she looked at the items scattered on the ground and proceeded to close the door. Gordon stopped her. “Ms. Liddell, you can just tell me if you have an issue with me. I believe that Ms. Quigley has never done anything to provoke you.”

Noelle snorted in response. She turned around, picked up a lighter, and tossed it outside. The flame ignited the books, and everything quickly caught on fire.

Geen’s face went pale with shock. “She’s crazy! She’s gone mad! Help! Someone, come and put out the fire!”

Noelle finally shut the door with a loud bang. She could smell faint burning from outside the room as she calmly booted up her computer to play a game. When she logged in, she saw several notifications for private messages.

One was from Lucas: “I promise that you’ll be well compensated if you join my team. If you have any other requirements, just tell me about them, and I’ll do my best to satisfy them. Team Luminark is backed by the Liddell family, so you don’t have to worry about funding. Other than that, a brother of mine owns a film production company. We could even help you transition into the entertainment industry if you’re interested. Whether you’re still a student or already a working adult, I can assure you that joining Team Luminark will be worthwhile. You don’t even need to be a full-time team member, so you don’t have to worry about your personal life being affected. Please consider my proposal.”

Noelle was highly amused by Lucas’s message. She did not expect him to be this persistent. She wrote her reply: “I’ll think about it.”

Noelle wondered what expression Lucas would show if he learned that the alternate account belonged to her. She could not help but look forward to that moment.

Right after finishing a dungeon run in the game, a loud knock sounded on her door. “Noelle! Come out here now!” She could hear Lucas’s voice calling for her, but she ignored him and calmly sorted her inventory in the game. Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a bang.

Lucas stormed into her room furiously. His anger deepened when he saw that Noelle was busy playing her game. He refused to believe it at first, but after looking at the burnt items out in the hallway, he was stunned. “What the hell are you doing, Noelle? Why did you throw Xenia’s stuff out in the hallway and set them on fire?”

He could only wonder why Noelle had become…

Noelle logged out of the game and grinned. She calmly looked up at Lucas and asked, “Yeah? What about it?” Her tone was nothing short of defiant.

Lucas was so angry that the veins in his temples bulged. “Listen, Noelle. I know that you’re angry at us for favoring Xenia over you and mistreating you for all these years. If you have a problem with us, take it out on us! But Xenia doesn’t owe you anything! Don’t you forget that her father saved your life?”

Xenia clutched her burnt textbooks. Her eyes were red, and she seemed devastated. “It’s fine, Lucas. I’ll move out to live by myself. I’m already an adult, after all! I don’t have the right to continue freeloading off the Lidells.”

“Don’t say that, Xenia. Just wait until Dad’s back. We’ll show him what Noelle truly is like! Now that the exams are over, we no longer have to hold back.” “Lucas, if leaving the house will help you all get along and convince Noelle to join your team for the finals, I’m ready to do it in a heartbeat!” replied Xenia. Lucas scoffed and explained, “Noelle, do you honestly think you’re irreplaceable? Listen, the team doesn’t need you anymore.”

Noelle raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips as she recalled Lucas’s private message just moments prior. She was rather impressed by how multifaceted Lucas was. He smugly continued, “I’ve already found another talented gunner, and she said she’s considering joining my team. You can no longer hold this over me!”

Xenia raised her head and asked, “Do you really manage to find someone, Lucas?”

“That’s right. She replied to my message just an hour ago.”

Noelle had a pretty good idea about the “someone” Lucas was referring to, but that “someone” had only said that she was considering the offer and had not yet agreed to anything.

She looked up, her eyes full of mockery. “Are you sure she’ll join you, Lucas?”

Lucas felt that he finally had the upper hand over Noelle for once. “Of course! Team Luminark offers unrivaled benefits. She has no reason not to join us! There’s no one that can compete with the rich amount of money!”

“I’ve already given you a chance before, Noelle. You didn’t appreciate it, so you had better not test me.” Noelle’s lips curled into a smile. “Honestly, you coulda’ done worse.”
